A handsome production and an important work, being the first publication of Bligh’s original log. The first volume (undated) was issued late in 1936, see Du Rietz 1125. See also Pertelote 117: “In the light of enquiry, it seems clear that this was the first ship’s log to be published with full details. The transcription from the Admiralty records alone took three months, and the setting presented many difficulties. All the events of the day were recorded on the page devoted to that day in the space allotted to the hour, or even half hour, at which they were recorded. When necessary, hand-writing can be compressed, but not so type. The easy solution would have been to use various type-sizes, but this would have produced an ugly irregularity throughout the book.
