[21st Sunday in Ordinary Time – page 123 in the Parish Mass Book] HELEN HIGGS RIP: The funeral service for Helen Higgs, who died at the beginning of the month, will be at Crematorium on Tuesday at 11.45am. She enjoyed belonging to the Sunday morning Mass community before she became ill. Although neither Helen nor Steve, her husband, were Catholics he has asked Fr. John to conduct her funeral service and would be pleased if any parishioners were able to join the family in the Chapel in Chichester. May she rest in peace! SHEILA LYNCH RIP: The family have asked that her Funeral Mass can be in St. Wilfrid's before she is laid to rest with her husband, Stephen, in the cemetery at Church Norton. Stephen and Sheila lived in Selsey for many years and looked after the The Fisherman's Joy (where our present parish community began in 1916 with a regular Sunday Mass in an upstairs room). After Stephen died at the beginning of 2011 Sheila moved to Hove to be closer to her family. Her Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday at 2.00pm: may she rest in peace! CARDINAL CORMAC: Next Saturday will be the first anniversary of the death of the third Bishop of our diocese who went on from Arundel and Brighton to become the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster. A year ago we received a special “in memoriam” card with a photo of Cardinal Cormac looking just as anyone who knew him will remember him: there are more available in the porch. May he rest in peace! Arundel and Brighton Diocesan Trust is Registered Charity No 252878 “FEAST OF FOLK” The Selsey Folk & Music Club is hosting a fabulous 'Feast of Folk' concert next Saturday, at 6.30pm for 7.00pm at The Selsey Centre. Featuring Ninebarrow – a folk duo – and supported by Sally Ironmonger – a singer/songwriter. Contact Julian – 07721 532 711 – for further details; or see posters displayed around the Town! COFFEE AFTER MASS: There will be coffee, other refreshments, and plenty of friendly chat in the Hall after Mass next Saturday evening and Sunday morning. New parishioners and summer visitors will be very welcome. CATHOLIC EDUCATION SERVICE: The retiring collection next weekend will be the annual collection for the Catholic Education Service that was set up by the Bishops of and Wales to represent the Church in the world of education. The provision of education – particularly for children and young people – has been a top priority in the mission and work of the Church in our two countries. Catholic schools now have a very high reputation but, nevertheless, have to defend it from small but well organised minority groups that promote a secular philosophy: the Catholic Education Service needs our help in supporting our schools and colleges. A VERY HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY: We have yet another parishioner who has achieved a big, big double '00' birthday joining that elite group of parishioners: a very happy birthday Joanne! “LIVERPOOL 2018” There is a Prayer Card in the pews with a prayer for the success of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage & Congress – Adoremus from 7th to 9th September in Liverpool. It will be addressed by Bishop Robert Barron, the auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles, that Pope Francis has called “the bishop who makes the airwaves tremble!” and will be an occasion for a spiritual renewal of the Catholic community in England and Wales as well as a deeper devotion to the Eucharist. Pray especially for the 400 delegates from our diocese attending the Congress. FOODBANK: For many families the end of the long summer break can't come soon enough so that the children can look forward to a substantial and nutritional school dinner. Teachers will again be on the lookout for children who will have lost weight or become ill over the holidays. Every year the number increases of those who turn to The Trussell Trust (that organises Food Banks across the country) and other similar charities to help provide food for the children of low income families – but they will only reach a fraction of such families. If you have groceries to spare – particularly anything that would be appreciated by children – then please leave them in the collecting basket in the Porch: the Chichester District Foodbank will put them to good use. PRINTER CARTRIDGES: There are two large white boxes – one in the Church porch and one in the entrance hallway to the parish hall – to receive empty computer printer cartridges. They can be recycled for resale and the Church Maintenance Fund receives a donation. If you have any empty cartridges please pop them into one of the boxes for the next collection (we can only take cartridges that have the name of a recognised manufacturer).

PLEASE PRAY FOR: Jacqui Brooker, Joanne Donoghue, Max Foreshew, Magda Gallanti, Nell Hassett, Reg Hunt, Bernadette McLaughlin, David Mortby, Jean Neagle and all in the parish who are sick. Please speak to Fr. John if you would like the parish to pray for you, or for someone in your family.
