30 SEPTEMBER - 6 OCTOBER 2019 ISSUE N: 121 The North Atlantic Council Paid a Visit to 03-04.10.2019 • The North Atlantic Council (NAC) paid a visit to Batumi, Georgia, at the invitation of the Government of Georgia. Deputy Secretary General of NATO Rose Gottemoeller headed the delegation of Permanent Representatives of the 29 Member States of the Alliance and an invitee Northern Macedonia. • Within the framework of the visit, the NATO-Georgia Commission meeting was held which was chaired by the Prime Minister of Georgia and the Deputy Secretary General of NATO. • “Our visit is clear demonstration of NATO’s ongoing commitment to Georgia. It is also an occasion to celebrate five years of the Substantial NATO-Georgia package – the cornerstone of our support to the reform of Georgia’s security and defense sectors, and to Georgia’s preparations for NATO membership." - Gottemoeller said. • The North Atlantic Council together with NATO Deputy Secretary General held bilateral meetings with the President of Georgia, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defence and civil society representatives. Rose Gottemoeller delivered a speech at Batumi State University, where she talked about special NATO-Georgia relations and cooperation and progress achieved by Georgia on the Euro-Atlantic integration path. • NAC visited two Georgian coast guard vessels “Dioskuria” and “Ochamchire” in the Batumi Port and met with the Georgian Coast Guard Boarding Teams, which are involved in NATO Operational Capabilities Concept process. MORE World Bank Survey - in 2019 Georgia Has Best Historical Indicators in Fight Against Corruption, Government Regulation and Effectiveness 01.10.2019 • According to the World Bank Survey, Georgia has advanced even further in fight against corruption, government efficiency and regulatory quality and has marked the best historical results. The Worldwide Governance Indicators survey reports aggregate an individual governance indicators for 214 countries and 186 members of the World Bank, in which Georgia has shown historical results in three directions. • Georgia received 76.4% of the 100% in its fight against corruption, and improved its position in Europe's best 20 advancing to 18th position. Georgia ranks ahead of the 14 EU member states. • In terms of effectiveness of the government, Georgia scored 74.04% out of 100% and showed better results than the six EU member states. • Georgia has another good result in the Regulatory Quality dimension, which assesses the effectiveness of the state- run reforms for the development of the private sector. The country scored 83.17% out of 100%. MORE Construction of a New Port Infrastructure in 01.10.2019 POTI • The US Government’s Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) invested $ 50 million in the project. The new port infrastructure will be located on 25 hectares of land. • Within the frames of the construction, the water area will deepen to 13 meters and, consequently, the port will be able to accept vessels with a load capacity up to 60,000 tonnes. This will increase the freight turnover to 5 million tonnes. • The project costs $120 million. Its first phase costs $ 93 million, out of which, $ 50 million is included in the OPIC's investment. This is the largest funding for the investment projects implemented by OPIC in Georgia and throughout the Caucasus region. • "Our government - the Prime Minister, the economic team - are sparing no efforts to develop a port and harbor infrastructure and create new ports in Georgia." - The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia said, while delivering a speech at the opening ceremony.
