High School Biology Classification Project Six Kingdoms: Individual Project

Objective: You will gather data and create either a brochure, pamphlet, poster board, or a booklet (booklet will be the easiest) on the six kingdoms in which scientist use to classify organisms. You are tasked with classifying six organisms (one from each of the six kingdoms). I will provide you with one organism from Kingdom Archaebacteria, however you must find one organism from each of the five remaining kingdoms. You will need to provide the eight taxa and along with general information about each kingdom.

This project CANNOT be turned in digitally or be turned in on line paper. Be sure to follow the instructions below to ensure that your receive all of your possible points:

 Six kingdoms – You must have a page/section dedicated for/to each of the six kingdoms o Part A -Provide the following information for each organism in each kingdom: . Domain . Kingdom . Phylum or Division . Class . Order . Family . . . Scientific Name: . Common Name: o Part B- Provide the following general information for all organisms in each kingdom . Number of Cells: Are they unicellular or multicellular (both)? . Type of Cell: Are they prokaryotes or eukaryotes?  Do they have a nucleus? . Mode of Nutrition: Are they autotroph or heterotroph? . Environment: Where do most of the organisms live? . Cell Wall: What is the composition of the cell wall? . Reproduction: How do the organisms in the kingdom reproduce? . Movement: Are the organisms in the kingdom motile or stationary? . Uniqueness: What makes this kingdom unique? . Examples: Provide three or more organisms (common name only) that are a part of each kingdom. o Bonus . You may have noticed online there is a kingdom that we have not mentioned in class called Chromista. It has been around since 1993 and includes a unique group of eukaryotic organisms, however they do not currently fit the mold that we teach in high school level biology. With that being said, to receive bonus points, you must find an organism in this unique kingdom and provide the information from Part A and the information from part B. Failure to complete both parts will result in 0 bonus points being awarded.

 All students must use one of the following organisms for Kingdom Archaebacteria/ o pernix o Desulfurococcus o saccharovorans o butylicus
