SEMESTER 2 | TERM 3 | ISSUE #1

FROM THE HEAD OF BOARDING

From the stories that we’ve heard, the boys certainly enjoyed their holidays; spending time with family, fishing, hunting and catching up with friends. Leaving all that behind is quite difficult for some and homesickness is a real issue for students, and not just for the Year 7s. At the same time, many boys are excited about seeing friends here at the College again. Homesickness is very normal and an experience that many adults go through – especially when people are away from family, it can strike at any time of life. One of our staff members was telling me a few days ago that she was homesick when she was in her 30s. The love of family and the connection to land is an incredibly strong emotion, and we are doing all we can to support the boys experiencing this. At the same time, I tell the boys that there is no magic solution, it is something they have to go through. Most of the boys get over it reasonably quickly once they engage in schooling and other IMPORTANT activities. DATES It is really wonderful to see the boys support one another through the experience. SHOW On the last week of the holidays, Mr Corboy and I had the pleasure of being at the Cairns show. St EVERY MONDAY Teresa’s managed to get a separate booth this year which allowed us to brand it in our own way. Youth Group @ The Dairy— The booth was freshly painted green and gold, our school colours. What was most enjoyable was 6:30-8:45pm the number of past students who called in to see us and chat about their days at St Teresa’s College. What struck me most was the way these men talked so positively about their experiences

when they were students here and their interest in various staff members they remembered with FEDERAL CENSUS affection. We hope to develop our booth even further next year with displays of the boys work. Friday 31st July BOARDERS LONG WEEKEND FORMS During the holidays, we sent home forms for Boarders Long

Weekend. We would appreciate it if parents and carers could send these forms back to us as soon ATHLETICS CARNIVAL as possible. If your boy/s is not going on leave for that weekend, please let us know as it helps Friday 31st July with our planning.
