Chapter 3: Venue Support for Performing Arts Groups Introduction 3.1 LCSD manages 13 performing arts venues. Based on the design, roles and functions of the facilities, they can be classified into two broad categories: Purpose-built performing arts venues with sophisticated technical facilities capable of accommodating major and technically demanding programmes from the international touring circuit as well as established local performing arts groups, and attracting patrons from wide catchment areas. Some of these facilities are multi-purpose in design, and may be adapted for different types of events such as concerts, theatrical and multi-arts performances. The Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong City Hall, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Sha Tin Town Hall, Tsuen Wan Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Hall and Yuen Long Theatre fall under this category. Among these venues, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong City Hall are territory-wide facilities patronized by local citizens as well as international visitors while the Kwai Tsing Theatre, which is most sophistically equipped for theatrical productions, is capable of housing technically demanding programmes and is attracting audience from all over Hong Kong. - 43 - Moderately-equipped venues capable of accommodating small to medium-scale performances and activities including those organized by the community. Temporary Service Arrangement in Relation to the Peak Tramway's
Information Paper C&WDC T&TC Paper No. 43/2019 Central & Western District Council – Traffic & Transport Committee Temporary Service Arrangement in Relation to the Peak Tramway’s Upgrading Plan On 2 October 2018, the Chief Executive in Council (“ExCo”) has approved, under the Peak Tramway Ordinance (Cap. 265), the grant of the second 10-year (2026 - 2035) operating right of the peak tramway to the Peak Tramways Company Limited (“PTC”) for maintaining the peak tramway as an important tourism and recreational facility. Since early 2019, PTC has embarked on works related to the upgrading plan. At present, the progress of the upgrading plan is on schedule, and the Government will continue to closely monitor the progress of the upgrading plan carried out by PTC. To enable District Council members to have an understanding of the latest progress of the upgrading plan and the temporary service arrangement in respect of service suspension starting from 23 April 2019 for around two to three months, the information paper prepared by PTC is attached for members’ reference. Progress of Admiralty Station Expansion Works Under the Shatin to Central Link Project
For Circulation C&W DC Paper No. 109/2017 Central and Western District Council Progress of Admiralty Station Expansion Works under the Shatin to Central Link Project Introduction 1. This paper aims to update members of the Central and Western District Council on the progress of the expansion works of Admiralty Station under the Shatin to Central Link (“SCL”) project. Background 2. The 17-kilometre SCL is a territory-wide strategic railway project linked with a number of existing and future railways to form two strategic railway corridors, namely the “East West Corridor” and the “North South Corridor”. The “East West Corridor” will be formed by extending the Ma On Shan Line from Tai Wai Station to Hung Hom Station where it will connect with the West Rail Line. The “North South Corridor” will extend the existing East Rail Line from Hung Hom Station across the Victoria Harbour to Admiralty Station via Exhibition Station. The “East West Corridor” and “North South Corridor” are expected to commission in mid-2019 and the 2021 respectively. 3. Admiralty Station will become the railway transport hub on Hong Kong Island that serves as the interchange for Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, South Island Line (“SIL”) and the SCL. As part of the facilities are integrated for both the SCL and the South Island Line (East) (SIL(E)) project, part of the major works including platforms and interchange concourse were carried out under the SIL(E) project to shorten the overall construction time and minimise disturbance to the environment, road traffic and community. As SIL has been in operation since December 2016, SCL has taken over the works site from SIL(E) in Admiralty to continue the remaining railway construction works. -

A variety of occupational stressors and workplace factors were uncovered for causing the elevated risk. However, little theory-driven research has been conducted to investigate Asian gaming venue employees’ experience of work stress and gambling behavior. Adopting the transactional theories of stress and coping, this exploratory study examined perceived job satisfaction, work stressors, stress strains, coping responses and gambling behavior among Chinese casino employees in Macau. Semi-structured interviews with fifteen casino employees (9 men and 6 women) were conducted. Many interviewees described working at casino as very stressful. Seven types of workplace stressors were identified. Most were aware of the harmful effects of work stress on their health. They experienced physical and psychological strains despite various coping strategies were employed to alleviate job stress. Many gambled after work to ‘unwind’. Using the DSM-IV criteria, one male employee could be categorized as a pathological gambler, and five men exhibited symptoms of problem gambling. In addition to job stress and male gender, other risk factors for problem gambling were also found. The study results have implication for workplace stress prevention and responsible gambling practices. -

Mosquito and rodent control services In 2019, one local dengue fever case and one local Japanese encephalitis case were reported in Hong Kong. To safeguard public health and as a precautionary measure, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) will continue to step up mosquito control and conduct the anti-mosquito campaign in 2020. FEHD will implement a series of stringent control measures. In addition to the in-house staff, FEHD’s contractors have stepped up pest control services. All the pest control teams are provided with vehicles and appropriate equipment, so that they can carry out their pest control duties swiftly and effectively.
