    Welkom bij het project Tastbare Tijd, Soest! De gemeente Soest bestaat uit twee bebouwingskernen: Soest en Soesterberg. Soest is de grootste kern en bestaat uit Soestdijk, het oorspronkelijke dorp Soest en Soest-Zuid. Soest, Soestdijk en Soest Zuid zijn met elkaar verbonden door de spoorlijn Utrecht-Baarn en hebben alle drie een eigen station. Ook Soesterberg had lange tijd een eigen station. De eerste vermelding van het dorp Soest dateert uit al uit 1028. Hoe zag Soest er vroeger uit? Als je goed naar het landschap kijkt ontdek je allerlei interessante zaken. De tijd staat niet stil, maar sporen van vroeger zijn tastbaar. In dit project ga je leren hoe het landschap in de gemeente Soest is ontstaan. Dit gebied noemen we het projectgebied. Het projectgebied ligt op de overgang van de droge Utrechtse Heuvelrug naar het nattere Eemland. Sporen uit de ijstijd hebben vele eeuwen lang de ontwikkeling van het landschap bepaald. Hoe dat is gegaan leer je in deze voorbereidende lessen. Je gaat onderzoeken wat er in het landschap veranderd is. Je krijgt telkens vragen en opdrachten.     Aan het College van Burgemeester en Wethouders van Stichtse Vecht en de leden van de Gemeenteraad van Stichtse Vecht Oud Zuilen, 17 feb. 2018 Geacht College, geachte raadsleden, Met deze brief wil de Dorpscommissie Oud Zuilen u wijzen op de zorgen die in Oud Zuilen leven m.b.t. de Gebiedsvisie Zuilense Vecht. Vooropgesteld zij dat wij geen bezwaar hebben tegen de verbetering van het sportpark als zodanig. Ook juichen wij het toe dat het ‘sportief park’ als geheel beter toegankelijk wordt voor omwonenden d.m.v. fiets- en looproutes en voor ongeorganiseerd sporten. Wij zijn het echter oneens met het voornemen om deze verbeteringen te financieren met woningbouw binnen het plangebied. Met de bouw van ca 280-350 woningen zal het sportpark, aldus de Gebiedsvisie, ca 15-20 % kleiner worden. In Oud Zuilen ziet men dit als weer een volgende stap in het dichtbouwen van de laatste open (groene) ruimte tussen Maarssen, Oud Zuilen en Utrecht, waardoor het dorp Oud Zuilen de facto vrijwel aan Maarssen (Op Buuren) zal vastgroeien. Dit betekent ook een verdere aantasting van de zogeheten ‘groene scheg’ langs de Vecht (of wat daar nog van over is). Bovendien is men beducht voor nog verdere toename van de verkeersdruk in de omgeving. Oud Zuilen is voorstander van het behoud van een 'groene buffer' rondom, zodat het eigen, historische, karakter van het dorp en omgeving bewaard blijft. Dit in overeenstemming met het eind 2015 door uw Raad aangenomen Dorpsontwikkelingsplan van Oud-Zuilen. Hierover wordt met geen woord gerept; Oud Zuilen wordt in de Gebiedsvisie zelfs niet of nauwelijks genoemd.

    Fietsroute Steengoed Het onderwerp "Steengoed" werd door het landelijke Comité Open Monumentendag gekozen als thema voor het jaar 1998. Men kan daarbij denken aan zaken als het gebruik van verschillende steenachtige producten in de bouw en bij de restauratie van monumenten. Maar ook aan het fabriceren van bakstenen, wand- en vloertegels en dakpannen. Wanneer men zich modern uitdrukt, gebruikt men het woord steengoed dikwijls om aan te geven dat men iets fantastisch vindt. Zo bezien is dit thema iets wat alle liefhebbers van monumenten moet aanspreken. Wij wensen u veel genoegen met deze tocht! De steen- en pannenbakkerijen in Maarssen Tientallen steen- en pannenbakkerijen hebben vanaf de middeleeuwen tot omstreeks 1970 een grote economische en landschappelijke betekenis gehad voor het Vechtstreekgebied tussen de stad Utrecht en het dorp Breukelen. Eerst waren de steenovens in het bezit van de landeigenaren, zoals de bisschop van Utrecht en diverse kloosterorden. Maar ook de stad Utrecht gaat al vroeg, volgens een bericht uit 1265, "in De Weide" ten noordwesten van de stad zelf bakstenen produceren. Later gaan ook andere landeigenaren, zoals de families Van Lockhorst en Van Tuyll van Serooskerken van kasteel Zuylen en de kopers en stichters van de buitenplaatsen, bijvoorbeeld de Huydecopers van Maarsseveen, er zich mee bezighouden. Veelal stelden de eigenaren mensen aan die voor hun de bedrijven runden of aan wie zij de zaak verpachtten of verkochten. Zo komen bekende familienamen uit de Vechtstreek als Voorsteegh, Plomp en Weener in de baksteen- en dakpannenbakkerijen terecht. De fietstocht, die u vandaag gaat maken, voert u - geheel binnen de grenzen van de voormalige gemeente Maarssen - langs de zeer schaarse overblijfselen van wat eens in (Oud)-Zuilen, Maarssen en Maarsseveen een belangrijke en bloeiende tak van nijverheid was.

    wijkinfo Wijkinformatieblad over Oud-Zuilen Oud-Zuilen is een klein dorp aan de rivier de Vecht, gelegen in de gemeente Stichtse Vecht, in de Nederlandse provincie Utrecht. Tekenen van eerste bewoning zijn er omstreeks 700 op het landgoed Swesen. In de 13e eeuw is er voor het eerst sprake van Zuilen. Rond 1900 wordt door de industrialisatie een uitbreiding van het dorp gerealiseerd doordat de bedrijven Werkspoor en Demka zich vestigden langs het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. Deze uitbreiding, die geheel los stond van het dorp, werd Nieuw Zuilen genoemd. Nieuw Zuilen werd in 1954 geannexeerd door de stad Utrecht en ligt nu in de wijk Noordwest.     Living with Rivers Netherland Plain Polder Farmers' Migration to and through the River Flatlands of the states of New York and New Jersey Part I 1 Foreword Esopus, Kinderhook, Mahwah, the summer of 2013 showed my wife and me US farms linked to 1700s. The key? The founding dates of the Dutch Reformed Churches. We followed the trail of the descendants of the farmers from the Netherlands plain. An exci- ting entrance into a world of historic heritage with a distinct Dutch flavor followed, not mentioned in the tourist brochures. Could I replicate this experience in the Netherlands by setting out an itinerary along the family names mentioned in the early documents in New Netherlands? This particular key opened a door to the iconic world of rectangular plots cultivated a thousand year ago. The trail led to the first stone farms laid out in ribbons along canals and dikes, as they started to be built around the turn of the 15th to the 16th century. The old villages mostly on higher grounds, on cross roads, the oldest churches. As a sideline in a bit of fieldwork around the émigré villages, family names literally fell into place like Koeymans and van de Water in Schoonrewoerd or Cool in Vianen, or ten Eyck in Huinen. Some place names also fell into place, like Bern or Kortgericht, not Swiss, not Belgian, but Dutch situated in the Netherlands plain.
