2020 Uniform Update

There are several updates to the Mercedes College uniform in 2020.

Transition to navy pants, and socks Formal pants, shorts and socks are changing from grey to navy. During this transitional year, both colours may be worn. Navy must be worn from 2021 onwards.

More formal options for girls In addition to their current options, girls may choose to wear skorts (3-5) or navy shorts (6-12) in summer and skorts and tights (3-5) and navy pants (6-12) in winter.

PE jacket A new PE jacket was introduced in 2019. Both the new and old style jacket may be worn. However, the PE polar fleece jumper is no longer part of the uniform Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 and cannot be worn in 2020. Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students always wear the PE Uniform. See the next page for details. The Formal Uniform begins in Year 3.

Physical Education Uniform

Students must have the tracksuit jacket. The Mercedes College blazer and jumper are not to be worn with the PE Uniform, and the polar fleece jumper can no longer be worn in 2020.

Footwear for PE

PE staff and sport coordinators recommend good quality shoes that provide significant support for PE lessons and sport. Some footwear does not provide the necessary support such as “volleys” and “skate shoes”. These are not permitted as a choice of shoe for any College recreational and/or sporting activity.

PE Lessons and Sport Trainings Students must wear the College PE Uniform or sport specific Uniform for all official school trainings except for and . Years 3 -12 Students are to wear their formal School Uniform unless they have a practical PE lesson that day, in which case they wear their PE uniform the entire day. Students with training before school must change into their Formal Uniform before the commencement of school unless they have a practical PE lesson through the day. Students with training after school must change into their training or PE Uniform at the conclusion of the school day. Students with multiple trainings in one day (before school and after school) may wear their PE Uniform for the entire day, unless they are required to wear their Formal Uniform that day for a formal event or school photos. Reception - Year 2 Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 students wear the PE Uniform all day everyday, regardless of if they have a practical PE lesson or not.

Formal Uniform Requirements 1st XVIII and 2nd XVIII players must wear the full winter Formal Uniform, including the blazer, to all matches. 1st XI players must wear blazers and whites to and from all games.

Tracksuit Requirements If requiring an outer garment when representing the College, all students must wear the PE tracksuit jacket.

PE/Sports Mercedes College sport clothing is available from The College Shop or the Second Hand Uniform Shop. All students must have the approved PE Uniform, including the Mercedes College approved hat. Sport Uniforms

The following policy statements apply. • All students of Mercedes College are required to wear the approved School Uniform to school and school events • All students of Mercedes College are expected to show pride in themselves and their school by meeting requirements relating to grooming and presentation. Parents are asked to support the College Uniform Policy by ensuring that their child(ren) has the required uniform, and that they wear the uniform neatly and correctly. The Mercedes College Uniform Policy is endorsed by the College Council and enforced by the Principal, Heads of School and teaching staff.

Agreement to adhere to the College Uniform Policy is a condition of enrolment. Students are expected to present themselves in their School Uniform in a neat, smart and well-groomed way. Clothing is to be clean, well pressed and in a good state of repair.
