Newlands Rail Corridor

The Newlands Coal Rail System is one of four systems in Aurizon’s Central Queensland Coal Network (CQCN). It is located at the northern end of the Bowen Basin in North Queensland.

In 2012 Newlands was linked to System facts. Aurizon’s Goonyella Coal Rail System, providing CQCN customers Track manager Aurizon with additional flexibility to access the Port of Abbot Point. The project Track axle load 26.5 tonnes included construction of the Track gauge Narrow (1067 mm) 69 kilometre ‘Northern Missing Link’, which connects the two rail systems, Track conﬁguration Single along with substantial upgrades to existing Newlands rail Export terminals 1 infrastructure.

Major Aurizon customers in Newlands include Glencore, Jellinbah Resources and QCoal.
