4 Cyprus - Greece Saturday 7 October 2017 - 20.45CET (21.45 local time) Match press kit GSP, Nicosia Head coach Ran Ben Shimon Date of birth: 28/11/1970 Nationality: Israeli Playing career: Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC, Hapoel Haifa FC, Hapoel Petach-Tikva FC, Bnei Yehuda Tel-Aviv FC Coaching career: Hapoel Haifa FC, Hapoel Kiryat Shmona FC (twice), Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC, AEL Larnaca FC, Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC, Maccabi Petach-Tikva FC, Beitar Jerusalem FC, FC Ashdod, Cyprus • Capped 34 times as a defender for Israel, Ben Shimon spent much of his career with home-town clubs Maccabi Petach-Tikva and Hapoel Petach-Tikva, but was perhaps in his prime during a six-year spell at Hapoel Haifa, during which he won the 1999/2000 Israeli championship. • After hanging up his boots in 2003 following a stint at Bnei Yehuda, Ben Shimon was in charge of Maccabi Tel-Aviv's youth teams, taking his first senior jobs in the second tier with Hapoel Haifa and then Kiryat Shmona, whom he led to promotion in his first campaign at the helm.

• Briefly in the Maccabi Tel-Aviv hot seat in 2008, he guided Kiryat Shmona to another promotion after rejoining them in 2009, then masterminded their shock title success of 2011/12. He moved abroad for the first time in 2012 to coach AEK Larnaca, earning a third-placed finish in his sole season in command. • Returning to Israel in 2013, he subsequently held the reins at Hapoel Tel-Aviv, Maccabi Petach-Tikva, Beitar Jerusalem and – in 2016/17 – Ashdod. Ben Shimon accepted the Cyprus post in July 2017, filling the void left by Christakis Christoforou's departure. Michael Skibbe Date of birth: 4 August 1965 Nationality: German Playing career: FC Schalke 04 Coaching career: Borussia Dortmund, Germany (assistant), Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Galatasaray AŞ, Eintracht Frankfurt, Eskişehirspor (twice), Hertha BSC Berlin, Kardemir Karabükspor, Grasshopper Club, Greece • Michael Skibbe started out as a midfielder at home-town club Schalke; however, the former youth international made just 15 first-team appearances before a series of cruciate injuries forced him to abandon his playing career in his early 20s. • Impressing as a youth coach at Schalke and Dortmund, Skibbe became the youngest boss in Bundesliga history when he was given the senior job at Dortmund aged 32 in July 1998. • Worked in tandem with Rudi Völler during the latter's time as Germany coach, reaching the 2002 FIFA World Cup final but the pair resigning after the national team's early exit from UEFA EURO 2004. Skibbe returned to club football, coaching Leverkusen from 2005–08. • First ventured abroad to coach Galatasaray from 2008–09. Went back to Turkey three more times, twice leading Eskişehirspor and briefly taking charge of Karabükspor. Had a longer stint in Switzerland with Grasshoppers. • Hired as Greece coach in late October 2015, tasked with directing their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying attempt after failure to reach UEFA EURO 2016.

The Week of Football concept enables fans around the world to enjoy the very best action from the European Qualifiers – which will determine UEFA's representatives at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. Qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup comprises nine groups of six teams, with matches played on a home-and- away basis. Qualifying takes place under the 'Week of Football' concept, introduced ahead of the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign, in which games are spread out from Thursday to Tuesday, shining the spotlight on more teams on the road to the finals in Russia. Moreover, thanks to the Week of Football, at least 43% of matches will be played on weekends, giving fans a better chance to follow the action on television, in the stadiums and on UEFA.com. Kick-off times will be set mainly at 18:00CET and 20:45CET on Saturdays and Sundays and at 20:45CET for Thursdays, Fridays, Mondays and Tuesdays. In double-header matchweeks, sides will play on Thursday/Sunday, Friday/Monday or Saturday/Tuesday. Each day of the Week of Football will feature eight to ten games. The nine group winners will qualify directly for the final tournament. The eight best runners-up will contest play-offs to decide the last four qualifiers for the finals. The 13 qualifiers then join hosts Russia in the finals to make it 14 UEFA member associations represented. How qualification works The other confederations have the following qualifying berths: Africa: 5 Asia: 4.5 North and Central America and Caribbean: 3.5 Oceania: 0.5 South America: 4.5
