THE ORIGINS 1. The history of American neo-conservatism begins in the 1960s with a group of in tellectuals from the liberal camp, who rejected the Cultural Revolution and the radi calism of the New Left. The intellectual leaders of the new movement, Norman Pod- horetz and Irving Kristol, as well as their allies and associates Nathan Glazer, Daniel Bell, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Jeanne Kirkpatrick, among others, were later named “neo-conservatives” or “neocons” to emphasize the difference between “converted” leftist liberals and “regular” republican conservatives (Ehrman 2000: 50- -70). Notably, neo-conservatives formed their intellectual credo from the elements of many doctrines - including the thought of Hannah Arendt, Reinhold Niebuhr, Walter Lippman, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and Leo Strauss. In general, they shared the view of the whole conservative camp, that the social crisis of the 1960s and 1970s was deep ened by the counterculture, which undermined the Judeo-Christian tradition in America and infected the roots of American society. The “regular” and “neo” conser vatives commonly believed that American society had been weakened by the effects of industrialization and suffered from the erosion of social relations, caused by the leftist-liberal campaign against religion and family. In matters of foreign policy the early neo-conservatives defended containment and anticommunism, strongly sup ported the alliance between America and Israel and raised the significance of moral issues in international policy (Podhoretz 1986, Kristol 1999, Ehrman 2000, Friedman 2005, Tokarski 2006).

Dear Fellow Republicans, It is a great time to be a Republican in Cuyahoga County! 2014 was an exciting and busy year as we worked to re- elect our incumbent statewide candidates and further develop our voter engagement efforts with the creation of the Advocacy Council. While the work is constant, it builds a foundation for continued Republican success, such as the 70% of Republican endorsed candidates that were elected to local office in 2015. In 2014, Ohio Governor John Kasich won Cuyahoga County in his gubernatorial re-election; this was the first time Cuyahoga County voted Republican since Senator George Voinovich’s 2004 re-election to the U.S. Senate. Cuyahoga County was a regular campaign stop for many of our incumbent Republican officeholders, including a rally for Governor Kasich with U.S. Senator Rob Portman and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. In the end, winning Cuyahoga County was the icing on the cake for Governor Kasich who won a historic 86 out of 88 Ohio counties.

The Rules of #MeToo Jessica A. Clarke† ABSTRACT Two revelations are central to the meaning of the #MeToo movement. First, sexual harassment and assault are ubiquitous. And second, traditional legal procedures have failed to redress these problems. In the absence of effective formal legal pro- cedures, a set of ad hoc processes have emerged for managing claims of sexual har- assment and assault against persons in high-level positions in business, media, and government. This Article sketches out the features of this informal process, in which journalists expose misconduct and employers, voters, audiences, consumers, or professional organizations are called upon to remove the accused from a position of power. Although this process exists largely in the shadow of the law, it has at- tracted criticisms in a legal register. President Trump tapped into a vein of popular backlash against the #MeToo movement in arguing that it is “a very scary time for young men in America” because “somebody could accuse you of something and you’re automatically guilty.” Yet this is not an apt characterization of #MeToo’s paradigm cases.

Gerð verður grein fyrir þeim pólitíska jarðvegi sem hreyfingin spratt upp úr og hún í framhaldinu skilgreind og staðsett innan bandarískra stjórnmála. Einblínt er á að skoða orðræðu tengda félagslegum álitamálum eins og fóstureyðingum og hjónaböndum samkynhneigðra sem og orðræðu tengdri hinu umdeilda heilbrigðisfrumvarpi Barack Obama. Ummæli áberandi talsmanna Teboðshreyfingarinnar um þessi mál, þeirra Söruh Palin, Michele Bachmann og Ron Paul eru skoðuð og borin saman við ummæli forsetaframbjóðandans Mitt Romney.
