She is known for her work as co-founder of the acoustic super-group Montreux, for her two award-winning solo vocal recordings, Signs of Life and I Surrender and her two duet releases with singer Teresa Trull, Unexpected and Playtime. In addition, Higbie has played on more than 45 albums, recently recording with Bonnie Raitt on Rosalee Sorrel's tribute CD to Malvina Reynolds. She has performed in contexts that range from the Kronos Quartet and Terry Riley to Ferron, Holly Near and David Grisman. Michigan-born and Indiana-bred, Higbie studied classical piano as a child and at age 13 moved with her family to Ghana, West Africa. As a teen-ager in Ghana, she was immersed in a vibrant cultural milieu a world away from small town Indiana. She studied with African master drummer Mustafa Tetty Addy, absorbed the lively Highlife music scene in Accra and traveled widely.
