This is your definitive guide to the South West’s best food and drink in this year’s Taste of the West Awards – what to eat, where to eat it and where to buy it. It’s a list of the finalists and overall winners in every category from fresh meat, sweet preserves and beer through to restaurants, hotels and farm shops.

Following on from the success of our 25th anniversary celebrations last year, the team at Taste of the West has continued to promote the West Country foodie culture far and wide. In April we launched our brand new consumer- friendly website featuring an online ‘Food Finder’ guide – two clicks and we’ll direct you to the best places to eat and buy local food near you, wherever you are in the West Country. After launching our new West Country shop on ocado.com in April 2016, this year we have further developed the concept and introduced new lines.

We are justly proud of our prestigious awards programme which has now become the largest regional awards scheme in the UK. The aim is simple: to find and reward the best products and establishments in the South West.

- 2 - The Taste of the West Product Awards programme comprises 23 food and drink categories. Just over 1,000 products were entered this year and panels of experts evaluated each product individually, assessing its appearance, aroma, texture, packaging, and most importantly its taste. The results revealed 320 Gold, 206 Silver and 149 Highly Commended awards to over 300 producers throughout the South West. All the judges were very impressed with the quality and above all the consistency at such a high level of production within the industry.

The Taste of the West Hospitality and Retail Awards scheme comprises 12 categories. This year entries were received from almost 350 establishments across the South West. We sent our team of experienced, professional judges out to each and every one to eat and shop their way around them all, and the results concluded in a staggering 200 Gold awards. We are constantly impressed by how the quality within the hospitality and retail industry has risen and continues to do so year after year.
