Report of Activities during COVID 19

Period April 2020 to April 2021

Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya, Chaitanyapur, Purba Medinipur

Being a NSS PO and NSS volunteers, we are feeling the urge but simultaneously facing a dilemma, what to do and how to do since there is a lockdown. After many discussions amongst us, we made a plan to help the poor people residing at villages by creating social awareness. Majority of our students are staying at villages, thus with the help of them we began the social awareness initiatives in those villages here they are residing to prevent COVID 19 spread. From the very beginning we maintain social distancing and the prevention protocols as updated by the government time to time in all our endeavors.

Activities in a nutshell i) Food Preparation and Distribution by NSS volunteer Ms. Junie Kayal to 50 people. ii) Helping the farmers in harvesting the paddy crop by NSS volunteer Ms. Junie Kayal. iii) Creation of NSS emergency fund with the help of donations received from faculty members of our college, Existing Students, Passed out students, Office bearers and local people. iv) Till now we are able to help 200 families (700 people) around Chaitanyapur, Purba Medinipur v) Financially helped a cancer patient from Akubpur Village, Mr.Tarun Das. Amount Rs.500 vi) Financially helped the canteen staff and his family. Amount Rs.2000. vii) Distribution of masks, leaflets to create awareness. ix) Posters were made through drawings to create social awareness against Covid 19 x) Videos were madeand uploaded in the Facebook page to create awareness

22.04.2020:

Activity 1:

On 22nd April, 2020 online training and orientation programme on awareness and prevention of covid 19 was organized by Prof. Pranab Kumar Jana, NSS Programme Officer, V.M. Mahavidyalaya, Purba Medinipur & District Nodal Officer, Purba Medinipur for all the NSS programme officers of the district.

Activity 1: Online meeting amongst NSS, PO and NSS, Volunteers

An online meeting for an hour from 11 a.m. to 12 noon has been conducted by Prof. Pranab Kumar Jana, PO, NSS and the NSS volunteers to discuss the future courses of action to fight against COVID 19 together following the social distancing and the prevention protocols. 12 NSS volunteers have participated in the meeting.

Activity 1: Food Preparation and Distribution by NSS volunteer Ms. Junie Kayal

An extraordinary initiative has been undertaken by one of our NSS volunteer Ms. JunieKayal today. She by herself cooked Khichdi in her home and distributed to the needy villagers nearby. In total 50 people have been benefitted by her novel initiative.

Activity 2: Distribution of Food items and essentials to 31 Families of Akubpur Village under Chaitanyapur Gram Panchayat

Today NSS team of VMM again distributed food and essential items to 31 families at Akubpur village, Chaitanyapur, Purba Medinipur. Along with food we distributed 20 no. of masks to the villagers.

Celebration of World Environment Day, 2020 during 6th June, 2020 to 12th June, 2020

On the occasion of World Environment Day, this year also we the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya celebrated it. The NSS volunteers with the able leadership of the programme officers actively participated in various programmes such as, 1. Tree Plantation Programme 2. Online Quiz Contest and 3. Awareness Programme 4. Participation in the online quiz competition

Activity 1. Tree Plantation Programme

Without the presence of sound environment the life of us is at stake in near future. Thus it is necessary to create awareness on issues like wastage and losses of food, deforestation, increasing global warming, unusual rainfall and so many, which has been considered as the adverse impacts of Mother Nature on us. One of the solutions to keep environment clean is plantation of trees. We the NSS, VMM conducted a tree plantation campaign during 6th June, 2020 to 12th June, 2020 with a pledge to keep our environment clean. The NSS volunteers planted trees at their nearby locality this year. Followings are few pictures of tree plantation.

Activity 2. Online Quiz Contest

The enthusiastic NSS volunteers had organised an online quiz contest his year on 5th June, 2020 on the occasion of World Environment Day. Google doc platform had been used to conduct the programme smoothly.

We are really thankful to all the participants who have actively participated in the Quiz Programme held on 05.06.2020 and made it a grand success. There were 80 participants from various schools and colleges around West Bengal. Apart from students, we also have faculty members who have enriched the participation list.

It‟s our privilege to have Mr. Agnimeel Das, Youth Officer, Regional Directorate of NSS, Kolkata as one of the participant.

We have selected three best performers of the QUIZ on the basis of marks secured as well as submission time.

The best performers are: 1. Mr.Kalyan Sanki - A student of , secured 86.67% 2. Ms.AdwitiyaMajumder - A student of Rammohon College, secured 83.33%

3. SkArif Mohammad - A Guest Faculty of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya, secured 83.33% We distributed participation certificates to all the participants along with we issued certificates of performance to the above mentioned best performers.

National Service Scheme of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya and IQAC observed International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2020 from 10 am onwards. A webinar on "Importance of Yoga for Mental Peace" was conducted on that day.

Activity 1: On the occasion of 74th Independence Day, we the NSS team of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya in association with IQAC, VMM organised a National level online QUIZ contest on the topic, "Freedom Movements of India" on 15th of August, 2020. We received an overwhelming response from participants across India. 1090 participants were registered for the said event and 753 participants were actually participated in the quiz. Participants across different states of India such as AP, HP, Maharashtra, Telengana, Tamil Nadu, Arunachal Pradesh, J&K, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, WB etc. made the event truly national.

Conducted One Day National Level Webinar on National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 on 23rd September, 2020

National Service Scheme (NSS) team in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya and in Collaboration with the South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD) jointly organized One Day National Level Webinar on National Education Policy on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebration of NSS Kolkata (Lecture Series- XXVIII) in Google Meet platform on 23rd September, 2020 from 11 am. The said webinar also streamed live in YouTube platform.

We had opportunity to have Prof. BaidyanathLabh, , Vice -Chancellor, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara University, Biharand Prof Kumar Ratnam, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India as honourable speakers for the session.

We received an overwhelming response from India. Total 464 participants were registered for the programme across nation. During the programme however we had 145 participants who actually logged in at Google Meet and YouTube platform and actively participated. All these 145 participants filled the feedback from and got their Certificate of participation.

Brief Outline of the Webinar:

The One Day National Level Webinar on National Education Policy, 2020 started with the brief introduction by Dr. Soumya Saha, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Programme Officer, NSS of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya as an emcee to the programme. Dr. Manabendra Sahu, Principal, Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya gave his inaugural speech. He welcomed all the stakeholders and gave his views on NEP, 2020. Dr. Santanu Basu, Coordinator, IQAC of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya has delivered the welcome address and also touched upon various aspects of the NEP, 2020. We were pleased to have Mr. Agnimeel Das, Youth Officer, NSS, Kolkata, Ministry of Youth Affairs, GOI as the Chief Guest to the programme. He appreciated the work of NSS, VMM during this pandemic situation. He also pointed out various aspects of the NEP, 2020. Prof. Biswajit Roy Chowdhury, Chairman, SAIARD presented his views on NEP, 2020 as being a Special Guest to the programme and being the collaborator. With this, we had ended the first part of the programme.

In the second part, the honourable speakers of the session presented in a lucid way the different aspects of NEP, 2020. Prof. Baidyanath Labh,Vice -Chancellor, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara University, Bihar graced the webinar and offered his views on the NEP, 2020 as being a first speaker of the session. After that, Prof Kumar Ratnam, Member Secretary, Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India also enlightened us with his thoughts on the NEP, 2020.

Finally, Dr.DipeshGhosh, Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Programme Officer, NSS of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya gave the vote of thanks and ended the programme.

Cleanliness Drive Programme, 2021 under „Swachhata Action Plan‟ (SAP)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya has got the opportunity to be a part of Cleanliness Drive Programme, 2021 under „Swachhata Action Plan‟ (SAP) this year. The NSS team planned to organise the programme in three days of January, 2021.

Day 1: 12th January, 2021 Day 2: 22nd January, 2021 and Day 3: 23rd January, 2021

The NSS volunteers with the able leadership of the programme officers actively participated in various programmes during these three days.

Day 1: 12th January, 2021 Time: 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

Programmes Conducted: ✔ Two Seminar Lectures were conducted on Cleanliness o 1st Lecture by Mr. Sourav Chakrabarti, Assistant Secretary, PBVM o Topic: Impact of cleanliness on public health, society and environment

o 2nd Lecture by Mr. Ashok Kumar Hazra, Retired Meteorologist, Kolkata o Topic: Environment cleanliness drive

We are social animals and cannot live in an environment which is not clean. Thus, it‟s our duty and responsibility to clean our environment. Thus we the NSS team of VMM started the “Cleanliness Drive Programme” by showing our homage to the Swami Vivekananda followed by two seminar lectures to create awareness amongst us on Day 1 on 12th January, 2021 during 10.00 am to 1.00 pm. The principal of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya Dr. Manabendra Sahu, graces the programme. We had pleased to have two representatives from the Regional Directorate of NSS, Kolkata during the programme, namely, Mr. Utpal Panja and Mr. Mayukh Das.

The 1st lecture was delivered by Mr. Sourav Chakrabarti, Assistant Secretary, Paschim Banga Viggyan Mancha on the topic, “Impact of cleanliness on public health, society and environment”. The session was an interactive one and students and NSS volunteers enjoyed the programme thoroughly.

The 2nd lecture was delivered by Mr. Ashok Kumar Hazra, Retired Meteorologist, Kolkata on the topic, “Environment cleanliness drive”. This session was also an interactive one and students and NSS volunteers enjoyed the programme thoroughly.

The Day 2 started with a Rally to create awareness amongst the people of the neighbourhood of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya and also amongst the people of the adopted village, Akabpur under Chaitanyapur Gram Panchayat. The rally was graced by our pricipal Dr. Mahabendra Sahu and Mr. Agnimeel Das, Youth Officer, Regional Directorate of NSS, Kolata, Govt. of India. The rally started at the college premises and ended at the adopted village. More than 70 participants including NSS volunteers and the college students along with NSS, Programme Officers participated in the rally.

Plantation in Akabpur (Adopted) Village under Chaitanyapur Gram Panchayat

Without the presence of a sound environment the life of us is at stake in the near future. Thus it is necessary to create awareness on issues like wastage and losses of food, deforestation, increasing global warming, unusual rainfall and so many, which has been considered as the adverse impacts of Mother Nature on us. One of the solutions to keep the environment clean is plantation of trees. We the NSS, VMM conducted a tree plantation campaign during 22nd June, 2021 with a pledge to keep our environment clean. The NSS volunteers planted trees at the adopted village, Akabpur Village. The plantation programme had successfully organised by the NSS Team of VMM in the presence of our beloved Principal Dr Manabendra Sahu, and Mr. Agnimeel Das, Youth Officer, Regional Directorate of NSS, Kolkata, Govt. of India.

A Painting Competition was organised by NSS Team of VMM on 22nd January, 2021 at the adopted village Akabpur. The theme of the painting competition was cleanliness. More than 30 participants belonging to the village took part in the competition. The successful participants were awarded with a token of appreciation from the NSS team of VMM. The said programme was graced by our beloved Principal Dr Manabendra Sahu, and Mr. Agnimeel Das, Youth Officer, Regional Directorate of NSS, Kolkata, Govt. of India.

Celebration of 23rd January

23rd January was the last day of the Cleanliness Drive Programme, 2021 under „Swachhata Action Plan‟ (SAP). The day started with celebrating the Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Principal Dr. Manabendra Sahu hosted the National Flag in the presence of NSS team and NCC team of our college.

Participated in the National Integration Camp, 2021 during 10th to 16th March, 2021 . The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya has got the opportunity to be a part of The National Integration Camp, 2021 organised by National Service Scheme, Regional Directorate, Lucknow. The venue of the camp was M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly Uttar Pradesh. We are thankful to the national service scheme Regional Directorate of Kolkata for giving us the opportunity to participate in the National Integration camp 2021. Professor Pranab Kumar Jana, NSS programme officer, Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya, and the Nodal Officer, PurbaMedinipur was selected as Contingent Leader, West Bengal to attend the aforesaid camp. He along with 10 NSS volunteers of West Bengal participated in the National Integration camp, 2021. The program was organised on and from 10th March 2021 to 16th March 2021.

The journey begins

The contingent leader professor Pranab Kumar Jana along with 10 NSS volunteers selected from West Bengal started their journey on 8th March 2021. They assembled at Howrah station from various parts of West Bengal 8.45 p.m. to catch a train, Kathgodam Express, scheduled to depart at 9.45 p.m. The journey was exciting. They arrived at Kathgodam station at around 5:15 a.m. on 10th March, 2021. The organisers arranged a volunteer to guide us to reach the campus from the station. They arranged a guest house for professor Pranab Kumar Jana situated within the

campus of M.J.P. Rohilkhand University. They also arranged separate hostels for male and female volunteers. We are pleased to get such pleasant hospitality from the organizers.

Day 1: 10th March, 2021

The camp started at around 09.20 am on 10th March, 2021. NSS programme officers from 12 states were present along with NSS volunteers. All the programme officers were asked to tell about their states. Prof. P. K. Jana told in brief about the culture, heritage and literary aspects of West Bengal.

The cultural programme started at around 4 p.m. Dr.AsholShroti, NSS Regional Director, Lucknow and Dr.Sampal Singh, NSS Coordinator, M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly Uttar Pradesh was graced the occasion. The West Bengal team started their performance at around 6.45 p.m. NSS volunteers enthusiastically presented various cultural activities to glorify our state.

Day 2: 11th March, 2021

First half : „Prabhat Feri‟ and Assembly

The day started early at around 5 a.m. We all assembled to go for „Prabhat Feri‟(i.e. Singing awakening songs in procession through the streets of a town or village) around the nearby locations of the University Campus.After completing the Prabhat Feri at around 6:30 a.m., we all went for a morning assembly and took part in the physical training activity.

During the second half of the day the NSS volunteers of three states, namely, Chhattisgarh Gujarat and Chandigarh took part in the cultural program. The program was good to watch. We ended our day at the dinner table.

Similar to day two, the journey of day three also started early in the morning to conduct Prabhat Feri. Completing the Prabhat Feri we joined the Assembly and took part in physical training activity.

The organisers arranged a day outing program to encourage the NSS volunteers to learn from the ground reality. The organisers arranged a rally, “Dandi March” From the vice chancellor's home today University ground. The first lady of the university also took part in the rally.

In the first part of our outing we visited the Railway Manufacturing factory at Izzat Nagar. The officials of the factory gave us a nice seminar on railway manufacturing. They allowed us to visit

every corner of the factory and to understand how they manufacture the railway coaches and engines. We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

In the second part of our outings, we visited the Veterinary Research Institute. We have thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Few Glimpses of Cultural Programme

Day 4: 13th March, 2021

First half : „Prabhat Feri‟ and Auditorium Cleaning

Second Half : Cultural Programme organised by West Bengal Team

Like the previous two days, the fourth day of the camp was also started with the Prabhat Feri. It is the duty of West Bengal and Karnataka teams to conduct the Prabhat Feri for this day. We successfully conducted the Prabhat Feri. Professor Pranab Kumar Jana performed bhakti sangeet during the Prabhat Feri. After completing the morning procession, we all went for a yoga activity.

The West Bengal and Karnataka teams also provided the duty to serve the breakfast for day 4. The NSS volunteers of the West Bengal team efficiently completed their task. In addition, the West Bengal team had been provided with a duty to clean the auditorium on this day and they successfully completed their task.

During the second half of the day the West Bengal NSS team also took part in the cultural program. They have been assigned to conduct the cultural programme for this day. Mr ShubhamoyChakraborty acted as an emcee for the entire cultural program.

Day 5: 14th March, 2021

First half : Debate competition, Poem competition

Second Half : Seminar and cultural programme

Usually the day started with the physical activity. We all assembled in the playground at around 6:30 in the morning and took part in the Yoga activity. After completing the breakfast we all assembled in the auditorium for the debate and poem competition, respectively. The topic of the debate competition was „AtmaNirbhar Bharat‟ and „Women Empowerment‟. Mr. Subhomoy Chakraborty and Priti KumariSahu, the NSS volunteers from West Bengal team took part in the debate competition. In the poem competition, the two NSS volunteers from the West Bengal team also participated. They are Mr. Subhomoy Chakraborty and Priti Kumari Sahu.

The organisers arranged a seminar for the participant on mental health. Dr Anita Tyagi, psychiatrist and social servant delivered her keynote speech in the seminar. The program officer of NSS, Haryana was the special guest in the seminar. The seminar was very informative. We all enjoyed the seminar a lot.

As usual the 6th day of the camp, we began the day with physical activity. We all assembled in the playground at around 6:30 in the morning and took part in the Yoga activity. After having our breakfast we all assembled in the auditorium to take part in the group activities. The organisers arranged a „Rongoli‟ competition and „Sit and Draw‟ competition for the attendees. All the NSS volunteers took part enthusiastically. From the West Bengal team the following members took part in the above activities.

During the second half of the day, the NSS volunteers took part in the cultural activities. Ms. Rakhsita Joshi, a renowned psychiatrist of Uttarakhand graced the occasion as a chief guest. At the end of the cultural competition, the organisers distributed certificates to all the participants of the camp.

Day 7: 16th March, 2021

First half : Valedictory Programme

It is the last day of the camp. The day started with yoga activity. After having our breakfast we all assembled for the last time in the auditorium to attend the valedictory program. Mr Rahul gave his speech about the last six days and thanked all the NSS programme officers and the NSS volunteers for actively taking part in the camp.

It‟s time to return home

Time Flies! We successfully completed the camp and it is time to return home. We had a scheduled departure on 16th March at around 9 pm. Finally we arrived at Howrah station in 18th morning.

The camp was a successful one. Each of us thoroughly enjoyed the camp. We learned a lot during the last 6 days, interacted with NSS volunteers and program officers of twelve different states, came to know about their culture, and shared our views. We all are eagerly waiting to get such an opportunity in the near future too. We thank the organisers for their hospitality and for

allowing us to witness a well-structured NSS camp. We thank the regional Directorate of NSS Kolkata for selecting us to be a part of this integration camp.

Few members of our NSS team of Vivekananda Mission Mahavidyalaya namely, Junie Kayal, Shrabanti Maity, Niladri Betal, Sunita Dinda organised a lunch for the poor children of the village Banshkhana, Jaalpai (Near Brajalalchak), Haldia, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal on 25th March, 2021. 50 children joined and enjoyed their lunch session with our NSS volunteers. The menu of the lunch was as follows: Luchi, Alur Dam, Suji, Misti.
