Den Atmosfäriska Revolutionen Hur Begreppet Gnosis Förstås Och Den atmosfäriska revolutionen Hur begreppet Gnosis förstås och används av Lectorium Rosicrucianum Niklas Nenzén Religionsvetenskap C-uppsats 15 hp VT 2016 Handledare: Per Faxneld Abstract In recent studies of Western esotericism, the essentialist status and "religionist" design of the concept of gnosis has been disputed. Current aspects to discuss are gnosis as modern construction, as reflective surface of a secular worldview and as element in revisionary historiographies. This study explores the dynamic of tradition and renewal of the concept of gnosis, employing as a case study the Lectorium Rosicrucianum, an international Rosicrucian New Religious Movements group that so far has received little academic attention. Two methodological procedures are applied and combined here, highlighting ideological aspects as well as testing a viable vocabulary for discussing gnosis as experience. The first method is a weberian analysis of the LR:s application of the concept of gnosis in legitimation strategies and in blending charismatic appeal with claims of traditional authority. Secondly, Hanegraaff´s dynamic typological approach is employed, in order to break down gnosis into tensions and polarities that detail the ”direct experience” of gnosis. It is argued that LR:s position as ideological ”Gnostic dualists” rests largely on their polemical discourse, while their added dynamic dualism, drawing on alchemy and german mysticism, retains gnosis as both an ineffable experience and a corporeal phenomenon, and especially so in figurative artistic expressions. Keywords: Lectorium Rosicrucianum, gnosis, NRM, Rosicrucianism, Gnosticism, Catharism, Manichaeism, dualism, Jan van Rijckenborgh, Catharose de Petri. 1.5. Undersökningsmaterial Mina referat av grunddragen i LR:s lära stödjer sig till dels på Konrad Dietzfelbingers The Spiritual School of the Golden Rosycross: Lectorium Rosicrucianum: A Spiritual Community of the Present (2009) och Rosenkorsets rop, fyra seklers levande tradition (2002). Current aspects of the concept to discuss are gnosis as modern construction, as reflective surface of a secular world view, and as an element in revisionary historiographies. This article explores the dynamic of tradition and renewal of the concept of gnosis, employing as a case study the Lectorium Rosicrucianum, an international Rosicrucian New Religious Movement that so far has received little academic attention. My methodological procedure is a Weberian analysis of the LR:s application of the concept of gnosis in legitimation strategies and in blending charismatic appeal with claims of tra ditional authority. I argue that while a construct of LR as ideological “Gnostic dualists” can be derived from their polemical discourse, their outlook of “dynamic dualism”, drawing on alchemy and German mysticism, retains gnosis as both an ineffable, mythopoetically circumscribed experience and as social and corporeal phenomena. Addendum 1 THE ROSICRUCIAN MANIFESTOES : FAMA, CONFESSIO and ASSERTIO FAMA FRATERNITATIS R.C. 283 Or rumors of the Brotherhood of the very laudable Order of the Rose Cross. To the leaders, estates 284 and learned of Europe. We, Brothers of the Brotherhood of the Rose Cross, offer all who read our Fama in Christian intent our greeting, love, and prayer. After the alone wise and merciful God most recently so plentifully poured out his mercy and goodness over the human race, so that the in- sight both of his Son and of nature has gradually gained more depth, we might rightly speak of a happy age where He not only let us discover nearly half of the unknown and hidden world and revealed many mar- velous and formerly unseen works and creatures of nature, but moreover raised men endowed with great wisdom who partly re-established the de- teriorated, imperfect, applied science, 285 that man would be aware of his nobility at last and of how far his knowledge extends in nature, which is the quality of the microcosm. Although the thoughtless world will be little pleased by this method, and slander, laughter and mockery will ever more increase, even with the learned, pride and ambition are so great that mankind will not unite to make from all the things that God has sent us so abundantly in our age, a book of nature or a guideline for all sciences; but on the contrary they will work against one another. So all remains as it was and the pope, Ar- istotle and Galen, yea and anything that resembles an old codex will be considered as the clear revealed light, even though those named, if they were alive, would surely willingly improve themselves with great pleasure.

Introvigne, “Rosicrucianism”, Dictionary of Contemporary Esotericism (ed. E. Asprem), Leiden: Brill. Archived at ContERN Repository for Self-Archiving (CRESARCH) https://contern.org/cresarch/cresarch-repository/ Feb. 5, 2019. Rosicrucianism Rosicrucianism was born from three works, known as the Manifestos, which appeared in Germany between 1614 and 1616. Their main author was the German Lutheran theologian Johannes Valentinus Andreae (1586-1654), and they told the story of a brotherhood of initiates that had supposedly existed in the Middle Ages around one Christian Rosenkreutz. The works were symbolic and fictional, but nature imitated art and several Rosicrucian orders were created in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. None of them survived the French Revolution, but in the meantime they had exerted an influence on Freemasonry, where Rosicrucian degrees were created at the end of the eighteenth century and continue to exist today. Among Scottish and English Freemasons, independent societies devoted to explore Rosicrucian mysteries were created in the nineteenth century. A dispute exists on whether these societies were first born in Scotland or in England, and about the exact date of creation of the Societas Rosicruciana in Scotia and its connection with pre-existing Scottish Rosicrucian orders. It still exists, with branches in other countries such as Australia, Hong Kong, and Finland. The Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA) was established in London in 1865-1866 by Robert Wentworth Little (1840-1878), an officer within Freemasonry’s Grand Lodge of England. Although now reduced to a handful of lodges in England and Australia, SRIA was important for the history of Western esotericism, because in 1888 three of its members founded the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, one of the most influential modern occult orders.
