A Study of Theme in the Songs of Hillsong Music Australia Through CHAPTER IV DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS The concept of gospel songs is Christianity and the basis of gospel songs is the Scripture. Mostly, gospel songs talk about faith, God’s love and kindness, redemption, the promises of God toward man, and mercy. Because the concept of gospel songs is Christianity, so the root of the lyrics of the songs is from the Holy Bible. The Christians believe that every thing is in the Holy Bible is God’s words which are written by the apostles. Thus, the Christians’ faith and knowledge about God are based on the Holy Bible. Because the root of the lyrics of the songs is from the Holy Bible, all Christians who sing the songs will connect, indirectly, with God. By singing the songs, people will know and feel God’s love and mercy and that will grow their faith and strengthen their relationship with God. In other word, God speaks to man through the Holy Bible in the form of verses. And the words of the verses become the basis or root of the lyrics of the song which can strengthen someone’s faith toward God. This connection can be drawn as the diagram below: God Holy Bible Verses Lexicon/Word Lyrics of song Thus, according to that connection, the writer of the thesis does the analysis based on the Holy Bible. 32 33 4.1 THE ANALYSIS OF SONG 1 MY REDEEMER LIVES I know He rescued my soul His blood has covered my sin I believe…I believe My shame He’s taken away My pain is healed in His name 5 I believe…I believe I’ll raise a banner Cause my Lord has conquered the grave My Redeemer lives…My Redeemer lives My Redeemer lives…My Redeemer lives 10 You lift my burdens I’ll rise with You I’m dancing on this mountain top To see Your kingdom come From the song above, the writer will list all the parts of speech in the table below: Table 1. Jesus Christ as a redeemer has risen from death three days after His death and people may celebrate it through this song. In this song, there are several lexical items that are used to convey the theme, and the writer of this thesis will analyze each of them based on the Bible. The analysis of the data will be based on Holy Bible because gospel music is music in any style whose lyric is substantially based upon Christian truth contained in or derived from the Holy Bible. The lexical items that are going to be analyzed are only noun, verb, and pronoun since they convey the theme of the song. A. NOUN 1. SOUL (line 1) The word ‘soul’ here means that Jesus as a redeemer came to the world not to save the human body but to save human soul because the body can be destroyed. When people die, their body will be dust because they are formed from dust at the beginning. “…the Lord God fo rmed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being” (Genesis 2:7). “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return” (Genesis 3:19). However, the soul will live forever even when people die. And Jesus came to the world to save human soul so that it will have eternal life in heaven. 37 2. BLOOD (line 2) ‘His blood’ in this sent ence refers to Jesus’ blood who suffered and died at the cross. “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many” (Mark 14:24). It means that Jesus’ death at the cross and His poured blood are the covenant between God and man that Jesus will replace man at the cross and through His death and blood, God will forgive man’s sin. Jesus come into the world as a peacemaker between God and man so that God will forgive man’s sins. “…and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross” (Colossians 1:20). So, actually, the one who suffer and die at the cross, whose blood is poured out is man not Jesus. However, because He so love the world, He gave His own blood to save the world. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:18-19). “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). 3. SIN (line 2) ‘Sin’ means all what people do or think that against God’s will. The first time man fall into sin is when Eve and Adam against God’s will by eating a fruit from the tree that God commanded them not to eat from. And that first sin becomes a curse for all the man. This is written in the Holy Bible, “The fall of man” (Genesis 3:1 -24). However, God send His Son into the world to redeem and forgive man’s sin. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace” (Ephesians 1:7). “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3). “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:28). 38 4. SHAME (line 4) In this sentence, `shame' means when people believe in God and believe that Jesus is their Redeemer, God will give them strength to call His name. God will give courage for those who believe in Him to tell about Him. People who believe in Him will not be ashamed because having god like Him. Someone who is ashamed of himself and feel unable to do everything will have courage, strength, and never feel ashamed by the time he receives God in his life and takes Jesus as his Lord and Redeemer. God will also fulfill everything that His people need. ªThat is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for that dayº (2 Timothy 1:12). ªYou will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you, never again will My people be ashamed. Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the Lord your God, and that there is no other; never again will My people be ashamed (Joel 2:26-27). 5. PAIN (line 5) `Pain' here synonym with ill and sick. The Christian believes that Jesus is the Healer. He may heal every disease and sickness.

Praise for Creating Your Own Destiny: “More Americans put families ahead of work. Family is important to Patrick Snow. He is a speaker, coach and author of Creating Your Own Destiny. Employees used to be willing to sacrifice because of things like stock options. Now they’re fed up. They realize that family is the only stabilizing force in today’s turbulent economy. Making time for family isn’t just important for a few employees like Snow—it’s a growing priority for many workers disillusioned by layoffs, corporate scandal, and waning corporate loyalty. Seventy percent of employees don’t think there is a healthy balance between work and personal life.” USA TODAY Cover story “When Patrick Snow, a consultant in Bainbridge Island, WA, decided to leave a corporate sales job he called three friends for advice. ‘The employee handbook was good for a general overview, but it failed to answer some specific questions,’ said Mr. Snow who left to start his own professional speaking business. ‘Lucky for me, the information my buddies gave me enabled me to plan my exit strategy perfectly.’” The New York Times “Patrick Snow’s Creating Your Own Destiny is the most energetic and inspiring book written on fulfilling your dreams and finding true happiness in life. • 08/02/20 Eighth Sunday After Holy Trinity
08/02/20 Eighth Sunday after Holy Trinity Jesus says, “Beware of false prophets!” Matthew 7: 15-21 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn-bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,” shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. Our Savior’s warning in our Gospel-text against false prophets—against preachers and teachers who distort the Gospel and preach their own ideas—should be a reminder to us of a singular gift which has been granted to us who call ourselves “Lutherans.” Of all the great Reformer’s massive literary output, without doubt his most influential work remains what Luther simply called “the Catechism”—by which he meant both his S mall Catechism for children and his Large Catechism meant for adults and for the education of pastors. Ever since it was first published in 1528, Luther’s Small Catechism has been used to instruct young people in the Gospel and to prepare them to receive the Sacrament of the Altar.

  • Idioms-And-Expressions.Pdf
Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thai- land, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn com- mon, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscom- munication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to as- sist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used in context.

  • A Better Way #105
September 2010/ ISSUE #105 CONTENTS Does the Course’s Teaching on Vision Fit What People Experience? Does the Course’s Teaching on Vision Fit What by Robert Perry 1 People Experience? Reader’s Experiences of Vision 5 Circle Mailbox 10 by Robert Perry Circle News 13 My article “What Is Vision?” in last month’s A Better Way focused on exam- ples of vision rather than on Course teaching about vision. This naturally raised the question of whether the experiences I included actually fit what the Course means by vision. I especially imagined readers thinking that I had gone a bit soft on strict fidelity to the Course. After all, in these experiences, people are in some cases seeing visual light around bodies and objects. They are seeing God glowing in plants, stones, grains of sand, boards, rags, debris, broken bottles, and even molecules in the air. Isn’t that all a bit woo-woo? And doesn’t it imply that the physical world is real? If something is full of God, doesn’t that make it real? The fact remains, however, that the experiences I included are strikingly similar to descriptions of vision in the Course. I honestly can’t see any meaningful difference between them. To show you what I mean, I have taken the com- posite experience of vision from my article and, alongside the various parts of it, placed Course quotes that mirror the experiences. For these quotes, I have tried to use passages that are specifically about vision. In the few cases where a passage is not about vision, I have followed it with an asterisk.

QUOTES/POEMS BESTWEDDINGOFFICIANT.COM Marry Your Best Friend This is advice written by Dr. John Gottman in his book The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work. In Dr. Gottman's words, "The simple truth is that happy marriages are based on a deep friendship. By this, I mean a mutual respect for and enjoyment of each others' company." Today, we celebrate a friendship that began 12 years ago and has grown into the love Sarah and Jeremy feel today…a love that takes pleasure in just being together. Blessing For A Marriage - James Dillet Freeman “May your marriage bring you all the exquisite excitements a marriage should bring, and may life grant you also patience, tolerance, and understanding. May you always need one another -- not so much to fill your emptiness as to help you to know your fullness. A mountain needs a valley to be complete. The valley does not make the mountain less, but more. And the valley is more a valley because it has a mountain towering over it. So let it be, with you, and you. May you need one another, but not out of weakness. May you want one another, but not out of lack. May you entice one another, but not compel one another. May you embrace one another, but not out encircle one another. May you succeed in all-important ways with one another, and not fail in the little graces. May you look for things to praise, often say, "I love you!" and take no notice of small faults. If you have quarrels that push you apart, may both of you hope to have good sense enough to take the first step back.
