14 Partnerships - Internationally Recognised Qualifications Unicaf's partnerships with renowned academic institutions in the UK, the USA and Africa bring together the resources and capabilities of these organisations to provide innovative learning solutions and cutting-edge study programmes, delivered exlusively online; in the case of Unicaf University, students have the added option to study through a combination of online delivery and face to face tuition. Unicaf provides a state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment, which is enhanced with personal teaching, guidance and support. The Unicaf Scholarship Programme Unicaf Scholarship Programme is one of the most generous scholarship programmes available today. Unicaf supported programmes have a strong professional and vocational focus with an international perspective, to prepare students for work in the global market place.

www.unicaf.org 15 Flexible Delivery Models Unicaf offers full flexibility in teaching and learning, utilising different delivery models. The on campus learning mode, for example, (only available at specific locations of Unicaf University), uses, in addition to current teaching practices, new and innovative methods to enhance the learning experience. By combining face-to-face tutoring with elements of online learning and the use of the Virtual Learning Environment, on campus learning allows for greater variety and flexibility than teaching in a traditional classroom set up, responding to the total needs of the modern learner. Both, the online delivery model and the on campus learning model, share a number of significant advantages for students such as:

24/7 access to learning resources. Increased student participation as a result of being able to choose the learning environment they prefer, (online delivery or taught programmes). Closer monitoring of students' progress by tutors, using analytics provided by the Unicaf state- of-the art Virtual Learning Environment. The ability to measure academic progress by collecting student data, that enable tutors to identify areas in which an individual student is excelling, or where they may need additional guidance and support. The flexibility to fit learning around professional and family commitments. Improved efficiency in learning: students can use adaptive learning technologies to work on comprehending new concepts, and tutors can offer each student their individual attention.

16 Use of Learning Technologies Living in a digital age has changed the ways we work, socialise and learn. We are now used to receiving a continuous stream of digital information, usually at a fast pace, and incorporating it into our daily working and social lives. The same principle now applies to learning. The use of technology is core to Unicaf's operations. Innovative learning technologies provide a holistic environment, designed to offer support and flexibility, whilst maintaining quality and standards. The cutting-edge learning technologies used by Unicaf University elevate education to new levels, engaging students in new ways of learning, that are both productive and effective. Our Virtual Learning Environment enables our on-campus and online students to access learning material at any time of the day or night. Unicaf students can review coursework, write and submit assignments, study at the extensive e-library, listen to audio files, watch videos and make use of the material posted on the platform by their tutors whenever they wish to. This opportunity, to consolidate their learning in an engaging online environment, helps ensure success in assessments. Independent study skills are always important for success at university, and using the Virtual Learning Environment is a key part of our students' work. The VLE is a state-of- the- art, cloud-based learning platform, which provides a compelling, user-centred and adaptable learning environment. Unicaf University has invested heavily in the development of a suite of interrelated applications, which are connected with the Virtual Learning Environment, to provide the latest technology of online and on campus learning.

www.unicaf.org 17 Learning Experience Unicaf offers the best of both worlds. Students can study fully online or through on campus learning, a combination of face-to-face tutorials in a traditional classroom setting, with the use of online digital material and the guidance of an online tutor.

Fully Online Students choosing to study through the fully online delivery model have access to the state-of-the-art Virtual Learning Environment, which includes all the materials students need to study, using videos, podcasts and other interactive methods. Online study takes place on an advanced learning management system, designed to optimise the students' learning experience. The VLE allows students to interact with faculty and fellow students, and have access to e-textbooks and digital libraries.

On Campus Studies Unicaf operates a number of university campuses in Africa. Students have the opportunity to attend face-to-face tutorials at one of Unicaf's campuses if they are studying towards a degree programme which requires physical attendance. Students also take advantage of Unicaf's campuses and Learning Centres to have access to the internet, use the digital library and other learning resources.

18 An academic tutor meets with students in small groups, typically three times a week, to offer tutorials on taught material. In these classes students can develop a better understanding of topics and integrate ideas from their reading. Students attending the tutorials are expected to participate in discussions, exchanging ideas and views with fellow students and the tutor.

Additional Teaching Methods Unicaf is committed to high quality, innovative teaching to help students reach their full potential. Through the use of technology, a wide range of additional learning methods is available to students. These include individual and group project work, problem-based and peer-assisted learning.

Independent Learning Learning at university level is very different from school or college. Students need to get used to different ways of studying, and to the different demands of each programme. Students also need to be proactive, manage their own time and develop their independent learning skills. Unicaf's Student Support Department provides help and guidance on how to study most effectively, and how to boost self-confidence and develop the attributes required for success at university and beyond.

Your research will inevitably build to some degree on the work and ideas of others, but as a research student you are expected to make an original contribution to knowledge in your discipline. Each PhD student must take a number of online modules and also complete a dissertation. Students must defend their dissertation in a "viva voce" (oral) examination.
