CENS is a member-organization of the Association of Canadian Engineering Companies (ACEC). The primary objectives of CENS are: to maintain high professional standards in the Consulting Engineering industry; to assist in promoting good business relations between Consulting Engineers and their Clients; to foster the interchange of professional, management and business experience among Consulting Engineers. FULL MEMBERS of the society consist of INDEPENDENT firms and/or representatives of firms and/or individuals furnishing consulting engineering services as their prime objective or principal activity, and who meet the following qualifications: a) INDIVIDUALS are members of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia. b) FIRMS are managed by persons resident in Nova Scotia, of whom: i. at least 40% (forty percent) are registered professional engineers, and ii. at least 51% (fifty-one percent) are registered professional engineers and associated professionals. c) both FIRMS and INDIVIDUALS are engaged primarily in the business of offering independent consulting engineering services to the public, and maintain a permanent office in Nova Scotia for this purpose, where the majority of any work destined for application in Nova Scotia is performed, under the supervision of members of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia. d) an INCORPORATED FIRM is incorporated in Canada and a majority of its directors are resident in Canada. CENS annually elects a Board of Directors which includes a Board-Elected President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. CENS employs an Executive Director. Consulting Engineers are independent business people who have an established position in the community earned through years of dedicated service. They may practice either as a sole proprietor, a partnership or in a Consulting Engineering Corporation. Nova Scotia Consulting Engineers are legally registered professional engineers authorized to practice engineering under the laws of the Province. They have no involvement in commerce, manufacturing or construction activities which might influence their objective judgement on behalf of a Client. They are subject to a strict code of ethics and accept responsibility for their acts and those of their staff. Nova Scotia Consulting Engineers have attained international acceptance and have served Clients throughout North America and abroad. 6 CONSULTING ENGINEERS OF NOVA SCOTIA CODE OF CONSULTING ENGINEERING PRACTICE Members of the Consulting engineers of Nova Scotia will fulfill their duties with honesty, justice, and courtesy towards society, clients, other consulting engineers and employees.
