People making phone calls using the SaskTel network may hear a recorded message when they make a local seven- digit call. That will serve as a reminder that come May, the province will be introducing a second area code. To help with the transition, beginning Feb. 25, SaskTel customers may hear the recorded message when dialing a local call, reminding them that they must dial 10 digits in the future. The mandatory 10-digit dialing for local calls will then begin May 11 when callers will have to dial 10 digits - the area code plus the seven- digit number. The area code also needs to be included to send a text message. The effective date for area code 639 in Saskatchewan will then arrive May 25. The second area code is being implemented in Saskatchewan due to the increase in competitive activity. In addition, SaskTel said the growth of wireless services, and the proliferation of wireless devices, has helped to deplete the pool of available numbers within the 306 area code. SaskTel said the new 639 area code will be overlaid on top of the current 306 area Wondering wanderer code, meaning both will exist in all areas. To clarify, I did not conjure his voice in my head; it was defi nitely coming from the area of the living room, Layzing but I couldn’t understand how, as the TV was not on. Peering around the corner, I spotted my son in his usual weekend position: lying prone on the couch, Around clothed in sweats but bare feet poking from his pants, phone in hand. It was from there I was hearing the conversation between Sheldon and Penny, another of the show’s characters. I listened to the two of them plan- ning a Valentine’s Day evening for Sheldon’s girlfriend Amy, and I mentioned to Garrett that his dad and I had forgotten to watch that episode Thursday evening, as we’d rented a movie instead. Then the obvious fi nally occurred to me: “How are Big or small, you watching that on your phone?” I asked Garrett. The answer was so clichéd, I almost laughed: “I have an guys love them all. app.” I could hear the remaining two words ‘for that’ in I’m talking about my mind even though he didn’t speak them. screen size, in Upon questioning him further, I found out he truly does have an app that allows him to watch a TV program case you were but only until the next one is broadcast on TV; then wondering . . . the previous one is unavailable and the most current –– an opinion column replaces it. The journey for a championship continues for local teams in league and provincial play. Clubs are bearing down and hoping to hit their stride as the playoff pictures deepen. With an opening-round bye, the Watrous Winterhawks now know who their opponent is in round two of the Long Lake Hockey League postseason. After fi nishing fi rst in the regular season, Watrous awaited the winner in a hard-fought matchup between Drake and Lanigan.
