Dear Recruiter, Swami Vivekananda has rightly said that education is the training by which the current and expression of will are brought under control and becomes fruitful. It has never been more imperative to be aware of one's rights and duties than in today's globalized world. With the increasing connectivity of the world, legal awareness and enforcement has gained paramount importance. Here at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, we believe that education is the backbone of any healthy society, and imparting an extensive legal education is quintessential for progressive development of that society. In our opinion, legal education should not be merely academic, but holistic and integrated with practical experience that is necessary for any good lawyer. We aim not only to create good lawyers that aspire for perfection, but also good citizens. Our curriculum is thus, carefully designed to intellectually stimulate, inspire thought, and cultivate and foster skills that are necessary for any lawyer to flourish and shine. Therefore, I consider it a privilege to introduce the batch of 2011-16, which comprises of one hundred and fifty bright, well rounded, talented, skilled, and morally upright young law students, for whom achieving excellence is not only a duty to their conscience, but vital for their integrity. They have not only excelled academically but have also outshined themselves at various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like moot courts, debates and the like. They have optimally utilized these crucial years to venture into the legal world as interns so as to develop their legal acumen, and acquire the proficiency and insight that only practical experience can give. I am sure that each and every one of them will be a valuable addition and an indispensable asset to the institution they become a part of.

12 13 Campus Recruitment 2016 STUDENT COMMITTEES

“There's no limit to what a man can achieve, if he doesn't care who gets the credit." — Laing Burns, Jr

The overall development of students is the main goal of the students committees. Not only are these committees the best approach to encourage extracurricular activities, they are an excellent way to instil in the students the qualities of teamwork and leadership. The following are most active student committees of our University: Internship and Placement Committee

Consisting of five members from each batch of the course, the internship and placement committee works under the able guidance of its faculty advisors to help the students achieve their true potential. Working while Dr. Manish Singh learning helps the students to discover their areas of Chairperson, Internship & Placement Committee interest, and ultimately, to decide the course they wish to Faculty Advisors pursue in law. Internships are thus, a valuable way to interact with the law while we are still studying. From the first year in college to the time a student passes out, the committee is primarily responsible for assisting and providing internships for students. Finally, it is through the Dr. Aparna Singh Mr. Vikas Bhati placement committee that all arrangements of students with their prospective employers are engineered, be it PPO or Campus Recruitment. Cultural Committee

The Cultural Committee which also goes by the name Mr. Manoj Kumar Mr. Mahendra Singh Paswan Tehzeeb, captures the essence of culture of Lucknow which is one of the major cultural centres of the country. The committee has truly lived up to the city's repute for promotion of art and culture, time and again. Besides encouraging students to take part in cultural events all over the country, the committee organises a three day long cultural extravaganza 'Ohr' every year and it also credited for being the leaders in organising the University Annual fest 'Spoculit'. Debate and Discussion Committee

The quintessential qualities in a good lawyer are clarity of thoughts and brevity of expression. While being a good speaker comes naturally to some, it takes practice for others. The DDC provides the platform for students to learn and improve the art of expressing oneself. The Committee is involved in debates in different formats and organises annual month long debating league 'Tark' and also the political debate 'Satta' which is wildly popular. It is also responsible for selecting debates and speakers to represent the

18 19 Campus Recruitment Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow 2016 FROM THE PEN OF THE BATCH

कृण्वन्तो विश्वमार्यम

To make the entire world virtuous.

From Donoghue v. Stevenson, right upto Vodafone v. Union of India, the RMLNLU Batch 2011-16, for the last five years of its rigorous legal training, has not lost sight of the aforesaid mantra. Recognising that hawk- like-agility is the core skill that we need to inculcate in ourselves as aspiring lawyers, we still value the importance of “virtue”- hence, our persistence in strict adherence to rules and discipline. Trophies and mementos fall tremendously short of defining our quest for learning. Our national and global level Moot Court and oratorial achievements are not what we boast of; we usually do not talk out loud of our publications: what we really value is what we have learnt while attempting all of these, and the fact that we fared well in these attempts and stood out on the podium all these years, is of relatively less significance to us compared to the value that we assign to the skills, which we honed while engaging in such activities. We inculcated respect for the law while reading it. And throughout, we strove to develop an unparalleled sense of professionalism: our teachers guided us in this process, and so, while learning the law, we acted, not as students, rather as contract lawyers, or tax lawyers, or real estate lawyers, or corporate lawyers, while remaining, at our very core, as advocates of justice. We argued and argued, till we acquired the ability to unearth the multitudes of the layers of the law. And while we studied the laws in theory in full rigour, we didn't lose sight of them in practice. So, when our classes were dormant, we were nevertheless active, in law firms, courts of law, law publishing firms, LPOs, PSUs, and even in law libraries-wherever we scented the possibility of learning the law. More importantly, we also engaged ourselves in legal aid initiatives, consistent with our motto, learning important lessons in social responsibility. And, most importantly, we have stayed together. Our curiosity has been fuelled by our collective desire to excel, and in the days and months and years to come, we seek to substantiate this desire with tenacity of Batch purpose and respect for equity and conscience. 2011-2016
