Satan's Trance Media & Magic Final Exam Colleen Viana 12
SATAN’S TRANCE MEDIA & MAGIC FINAL EXAM https://vimeo.com/55339082 COLLEEN VIANA 12/11/12 Sensation can be defined as the mediation of body and world. It enforces and impacts a premonition of what our bodies experience upon some type of contact. Thus, it allows the body to be opened up to other forces and becomings that affirm in and as the future. This concept, posed by Elizabeth Grosz in Chaos, Territory, Art: Deleuze and the Framing of the Earth, is quite eminent in the subject of magic. The quandry of it as the mediation of object and experience, or science and religion, is what drew me to this video experimentation of the mediations created by media in occult and horror film. While sensation is, perhaps, the only state of consciousness that is impossible to scientifically measure, as are the limits of magic, I find it more valuable to visually see how it can be created/manipulated. The juxtaposition of horror film/television clips, and electronic music (with cosmological and haunting characteristics), and documentary footage from raves/electronic music festivals (that possess qualities of the occult) is experimented in this project. The latter adds an extra layer to this research, paralleling a cultural music phenomenon with the magical representations and rites defined by Mauss. With these media devices combined, I hope to embody this sensory experience that Grosz explains “as the contraction of vibrations...the forces of becoming-other” (Grosz, 80-1). Essentially, how can we experience Hollywood-defined magic and the magic associated with music and rave culture differently? In this video montage, I aim to highlight the three components of magic presented in Mauss’ A General Theory of Magic, in relation to the electronic dance music (EDM) culture. -

That is the conclusion of ADE Green, a conference organized on the 16th of October by ID&T and the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) at the Chicago Social Club in Amsterdam. Experts in the international dance scene spent the day debating on improvements of a more sustainable dance industry. Burning Man (US), Mysteryland (NL), Boom (PT), Sensation (NL) and Julie's Bicycle (GB) were some of the top music events that were re presented at the event, chaired by Jacob Bilabel, the founder of the Green Music Initiative. Challenges for pioneers During ADE Green international pioneers discussed on how they integrate sustainability in their businesses. Lyke Poortvliet, Sustainability Manager at Mysteryland: "Mysteryland wants to close the plastic cycle. We accomplish that by working together in the whole chain with partners such as Coca Cola, social organizations like Nederland Schoon - a foundation that fights street waste - and our waste processor. Hopefully in the future we can see festival cups as the start of a new product, instead of waste." The participants at ADE Green inspired each other by discussing the challenges they face and how they tackle them. Kick-off collaboration ADE The artist panel, with DJ's such as Gregor Salto and Headhunterz, focused on how DJ's can inspire their fans to participate in sustainable activities. -

The EDM Festival Sensation a Case Study in the Netherlands
The EDM Festival Sensation A Case Study in the Netherlands Wageningen University Department of Environmental Sciences Cultural Geography Chair Group Examiners: Dr. Chin Ee Ong Dr. Claudio Minca Thesis code: GEO 80436 Date: March 13, 2015 Elizabeth Anne Dineen 900213184130 THE EDM FESTIVAL SENSATION: A CASE STUDY IN THE NETHERLANDS Summary Electronic dance music (EDM) is a popular genre of music that has garnered enormous global success over the past decade. Nowadays, EDM festivals are one of the most common types of music festivals in the growing festival industry, which is an important sector of the current world leisure and tourism industry. EDM is also a type of musical sub-culture that comes with a package of socially created meanings and associations. This study focused on the total EDM experience at music festivals and gathered important information about the significance and practices that are associated with the sub- culture phenomenon. Two methods were used to complete this study, a questionnaire to frame the research and interviews to collect more in-depth data on the topic. The questionnaire sample found that the average age of an EDM festivalgoer in the Netherlands is 22.5 years old and that EDM festivals are enjoyed evenly between the sexes. EDM festivals are not a one-time visit event but are seen as places to go more often than once. The top motivations for going to an EDM festival were to have fun with friends, musical line-up and the overall reputation of the festival. The main activities reported at EDM festivals from this sample were dancing, drinking alcohol, socializing and taking drugs and almost all EDM festivalgoers reported being satisfied after attending an event. -

This means that creditors generally may not take action to collect debts from the debtor or the debtor’s property. For example, while the stay is in effect, creditors cannot sue, assert a deficiency, repossess property, or otherwise try to collect from the debtor. Creditors cannot demand repayment from the debtor by mail, phone, or otherwise. Creditors who violate the stay can be required to pay actual and punitive damages and attorney’s fees. Confirmation of a chapter 11 plan may result in a discharge of debt. A creditor who wants to have a particular debt excepted from discharge may be required to file a complaint in the bankruptcy clerk’s office within the deadline specified in this notice.
