We’ve been offering discretionary investment management services to individuals, families, charities and professional advisers in and around Chichester for over 20 years. We’d like to think that’s down to three things: having good local relationships, the unrivalled expertise of our team, and the support we show to the people and businesses of Chichester.
We have sponsored Chichester Festival Theatre, Chichester Priory Park Cricket Club and Chichester Rugby Club for a number of years. We are very active in the community with several of our staff being trustees of local charities, as well as teaching financial awareness to local young people.
We have partnered with a number of charities over the last 10 years, helping raise funds for local good causes.

Greg Mahon Chartered FCSI Regional Director
Greg joined Rathbones in 2002 as an investment director before becoming regional director in 2010. As well as looking after the direction and future development of the Chichester team, he manages a large book of private client portfolios and family groupings, including associated family trusts. He also manages a number of charities based in London and the South.
With nearly 30 years’ investment management behind him, Greg has worked for SNC (now Merrill Lynch), Murray Johnstone Private Investors and Premier Asset Management. He’s a Chartered Wealth Manager and Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, as well as an IMC member of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society of the UK.

Alex Clay Chartered FCSI Investment Director
Alex joined Rathbones as an investment director in 2002 and manages a large portfolio of high net worth private clients, their SIPPs and associated trusts. He started his investment career in London over 30 years ago at Henderson Administration where he trained. He subsequently helped establish the private client fund management department within Murray Johnstone before moving to Premier Asset Management.
Alex is a Chartered Wealth Manager and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments.

Rebecca Carvey Chartered MCSI Investment Directors Assistant/BDO
Investment directors assistant and branch designated officer (BDO), Rebecca started her career at Rathbones in 1998 as executive assistant to a team of investment directors. She then moved to London in 2000 for a similar role where she was an active member of Finance 4 Women.
As well as assisting the investment directors, Rebecca is the BDO, responsible for the internal compliance procedures within the office. Rebecca is also the regional marketing coordinator, leading all marketing initiatives and events for the Chichester office.
A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Rebecca holds the CISI Registered Representatives examination, the Compliance paper of the CISI Diploma and a Higher Diploma in Administration and Secretarial Procedures from the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).
7 Having the ability to speak to the market is close to my heart. Unlike many companies within our industry, we manage individual portfolios for our clients. Reacting quickly to changing market influences is essential in improving clients’ performance.
John Grout-Smith Chartered MCSI Investment Director
Investment director Johnny joined Rathbones Winchester in 2005, before making the move to us in 2012. He manages portfolios for private individuals and their SIPPs, as well as for a number of charities.
Johnny’s career began on the trading floor in the eighties with stockjobbers Akroyd and Smithers, and then private client brokers Henry Cooke Lumsden. When they were acquired by Brown Shipley, he stayed on for another six years before joining Rathbones Winchester, later transferring to Chichester to be closer to where he grew up. Johnny is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments.

Martin Vanstone Chartered MCSI Investment Director
Investment director Martin joined Rathbones in 2014. A specialist in investments, Martin already had a strong industry reputation when he came to us from Williams de Broë (now Investec) and continues to build on it today.
A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, Martin has worked in financial services for over 36 years, including the investment arm of a large high street bank.
9 I very much enjoy being given the autonomy to do my own research and to tailor a bespoke personal offering for my clients. We have the ability to offer individual portfolios to meet the needs of individual clients in a fast changing world.
Steve Haines Chartered MCSI Investment Manager
Steve joined Rathbones in 2014 and has been responsible for developing a substantial client base, managing a variety of private client portfolios, trusts and pension funds.
He started his career at Williams de Broë (now Investec) in 2011 assisting a team of three investment directors. During this time he completed the Investment Advice Diploma.
He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, completing the CISI Masters in 2016.

Lee Bailey Associate Sales Director
Lee joined Rathbones in 2016 as an associate sales director and is responsible for developing relationships with intermediaries.
Lee began his career with Friends Provident in Poole after which he worked at Scottish Amicable, Scottish Provident, Canada Life Group, and for the past nine years Williams de Broë (now Investec).
He has spent his working life promoting and supporting professional advisers, their clients’ best interests, and the wider business community in the South of England.
