ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH MAY 23, 2021 EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA

My Dear Parishioners,

On this feast of Pentecost, we hear again the story of the coming of the Holy Spirit: “Suddenly from up in the sky there came a noise like a strong, driving wind which was heard all through the house where they were seated. Tongues as of fire ap- peared which parted and came to rest on each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamation as the Spirit prompted them.” (Acts 2, 2- Saturday, May 22— Rita of Cascia 4.) 9:00 Mr. & Mrs. Walter Grembowicz Vigil: May 23—Pentecost Sunday The gift of the Holy Spirit came to them, both individu- 5:00 Georgene “”Gigi” Gross ally and collectively. The same Spirit that enlivened Sunday, May 23—Pentecost Sunday individual hearts to proclaim their faith boldly also fash- 8:00 Lynda Cole Hoagland ioned a people into one, forming the Church. On this day, we celebrate both the birthday of the Church and 10:00 Connor the pouring forth of God’s Spirit into our hearts. The 12:00 Pablo Rosales, Jr. Holy Spirit is a guiding presence to our Church and a Monday, May 24—The Blessed power within us, enabling us to live our faith in a way Mary, Mother of the Church that testifies to the death and Resurrection of Our Lord 6:30 Brian Gallagher Jesus. 8:15 Hector Pardo

Our faith proclaims the Holy Spirit as God himself, a Tuesday, May 25—Saint the person of the Trinity equal to the Father and the Son. PENTECOST SUNDAY

Just a recap of our present status:

1.) Sunday Masses: Saturday evening 5 PM. Sunday – 8 AM, 10 AM, 12 Noon. Facial coverings for those fully vaccinated are optional. We trust that the unvaccinated will continue to wear masks.

2.) Confessions: Saturdays 3:45 -4:45 PM and Wednesday evenings 8 – 9. We are now using the reg- ular confessionals for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

3.) Our Parish office: Please wear a mask and practice common sense distancing. Office hours are weekdays 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

4.) Until further notice, we encourage parish groups to meet virtually.

5.) The Church can be accessed through the parish office for individual prayer. The church will be open for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Tuesday and each First Friday following the 8:15 Mass until 12 noon.

6,) Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms: the same rules in place as for daily and weekend Masses.

7.) Until further notice, there remains no obligation to attend Sunday Mass. We will continue to rec- ord one parish Mass each weekend for those who feel they may be at risk and who choose to remain home.

Also - We offer our gratitude to those who continue to drop off contributions or send via mail, or who contribute electronically through our parish website. (Just hit "Donate" and follow the directions.) We continue to need your contributions for the day-to-day operation of the parish! I know that many of you have been affected at this time. But I do ask that you please be generous, as it is especially needed at this time!

FOOD PANTRY COLLECTION

You are performing good works by donating food to the Easton Area Society of St. Food Pantry. This will help us feed our neighbors who are hungry. Our greatest need continues to be for oatmeal, pasta, rice and noodle sides and hardy soups. We continue to hand out pre-packed bags of food in the parking lot, so it is hard to use heavy, large, family sized and com- mercial packages of food. Please bring your donations to the Msgr. Gobitas Meeting Room before Mass on the weekend of May 29th -30th. If you have any questions, contact Dennis or Ellen Potter at 610-253-0814 or [email protected].

PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL THOSE MEN AND WOMEN SERVING IN OUR ARMED FORCES! ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA MAY 23, 2021

Concerning our COVID-19 restrictions: The six foot distancing regulation need no longer be followed. All pews will be open and the cry room will again be in use. We urge all to use common sense in practicing distanc- ing.

Together with our Diocese, we continue to encourage all to receive communion in the hand as a hygienic measure during the pandemic. All those distributing communion will continue to take sanitary measures.

Please continue to follow the guideline not to gather or linger before or after Mass. We encourage people who wish to meet together to do so outside.

Priests and deacons will not be greeting the people after Mass. As always, if you wish to speak with a priest, they are available to you.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament has returned on a limited basis. Every Tuesday, there will be exposition from after the 8:15 Mass until 12 Noon. Every First Friday there will also be exposition from after the 8:15 Mass until 12 Noon. This will take place in the main church, whenever possible. Please use common sense in practicing distancing.

Sanitation: Please practice personal hygiene by sanitizing your hands. While the church will not be sanitized after each Mass, we will be thoroughly cleaning the church 1-2 times per week.

Those who are fully vaccinated need no longer wear a mask. We trust that the unvac- cinated will continue the practice of wearing a facial covering.

The Diocese of Allentown will continue to review our guidelines in the coming weeks in hopes of a continued easing of restrictions.

Congratulations PRAYER CHAIN to the newly bap- tized and their Anyone in need families: of spiritual sup- port may place their request on the prayer chain Elizabeth Ann De Pablo by calling the Christopher Wesley Servian parish office at 610-253-3553. We learned this past week that our Father Bernard Ezaki will be moving on to a new assignment. Father Ezaki has served faithfully here at St. Jane as parochial vic- ar since October of 2016. In addition, he has served for the past two years as chap- lain to Kolbe Academy, the nation’s first faith-based Catholic high school for stu- dents recovering from drug and/or alcohol addictions.

Bishop Schlert has now assigned him as parochial vicar to Notre Dame Parish in Bethlehem, a place that is not unfamiliar to him. Father Ezaki was resident at that parish for many years while serving at Bethlehem Catholic High School. Father will continue with his duties at Kolbe while also serving at Notre Dame. His new assignment goes into effect on June 15.

We are sorry to see Father leave, and wish him all the best! Our prayers will follow him! He is a unique and inspiring individual, a true man of God, and we will miss him deeply!!!

Father Ezaki’s last Sunday Mass here will be at noon on June13th. Following that Mass there will be a reception and the opportunity to greet him personally and wish him well.

On the day that Father Ezaki leaves, June 15th, we will be receiving two new paro- chial vicars here at St. Jane. Father Guency (pronounce “gan-see”) , and Fa- ther Jaya “Jai” Kumar Francis, M.S.C. Father Guency has served for the past 5 years at St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Sinking Spring (Berks Co.,) while Father Jai has been parochial vicar at St. Ann’s Church in Emmaus for about 2 years. We will be happy to welcome our two new parochial vicars!

CATECHESIS CORNER What happened at Pentecost?

Fifty days after the Resurrection at Pentecost the glorified Jesus Christ poured out the Spirit in abun- dance and revealed him as a divine Person so that the Holy Trinity was fully manifest. The mission of Christ and of the Spirit became the mission of the Church which is sent to proclaim and spread the mystery of the communion of the Holy Trinity.

"We have seen the true Light, we have received the heavenly Spirit, we have found the true faith: we adore the indivisible Trinity, who has saved us." (Byzantine Liturgy, Troparion of Vespers of Pentecost) Further reading: CCC 731-732, 738 ST. JANE FRANCES DE CHANTAL CHURCH EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA MAY 23, 2021
