The findings that testify to the first colonization illustrate the culture of the Slavic state of King Samo (632-658) and the ancient traditions of these places. After the Slavic waves period, these regions passed first under Franks domination. In 1004, the German Emperor Henry II donated to Albuino, bishop of Brixen, Bled and the surrounding area, the territory between the two branches of the river Sava, and in 1011 he donated to Albuino also the Castle. In 1558 Herbert VII of Turriaco (Habsburg) assumed, as a new tenant, the administration of the Castle of Bled. In the period 1809 to 1813 Bled was integrated into the Illyrian Provinces, dominated by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, to return to the control of the Austrian Emperor, who returned Bled to the Bishop of Briksen in 1838. During the Second World War, Bled was the seat of the German military occupation of the military and civilian government and in 1960 it obtained the status of a city.
