GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie Van Varik
GRAM PARSONS LYRICS Compiled by Robin Dunn & Chrissie van Varik. As performed in principal recordings (or demos) by or with Gram Parsons or, in the case of Gram Parsons compositions, performed by others. Gram often varied, adapted or altered the lyrics to non-Parsons compositions; those listed here are as sung by him. Gram’s birth name was Ingram Cecil Connor III. However, ‘Gram Parsons’ is used throughout this document. Following his father’s suicide, Gram’s mother Avis subsequently married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted. Born Ingram Cecil Connor III, 5th November 1946 - 19th September 1973 and credited as being the founder of modern ‘country-rock’, Gram Parsons was hugely influenced by The Everly Brothers and included a number of their songs in his live and recorded repertoire – most famously ‘Love Hurts’, a truly wonderful rendition with a young Emmylou Harris. He also recorded ‘Brand New Heartache’ and ‘Sleepless Nights’ – also the title of a posthumous album – and very early, in 1967, ‘When Will I Be Loved’. Many would attest that ‘country-rock’ kicked off with The Everly Brothers, and in the late sixties the album Roots was a key and acknowledged influence, but that is not to deny Parsons huge role in developing it. Gram Parsons is best known for his work within the country genre but he also mixed blues, folk, and rock to create what he called “Cosmic American Music”. While he was alive, Gram Parsons was a cult figure that never sold many records but influenced countless fellow musicians, from the Rolling Stones to The Byrds. -

Politics Business Science Sport Roses Freshers Music › News Features Reviews Playlists The Bedlam in Goliath If you like your music frantic, frenzied and undeniably proggy, then this could be your most anticipated album of the year By James W. Cousins, Chief Sub-Editor (2008/09) Friday 22 February 2008 Artist: The Mars Volta Album: The Bedlam in Goliath Rating: * * * * Before we begin, a warning: If you like your music calm and unhurried, folky, or indie danceable, The Mars Volta are not for you. If, however, you like your music frantic, frenzied and undeniably proggy, then this could be your most anticipated album of the year. For those of you not yet acquainted with their manic creations, The Mars Volta do not shy away from complicated time signatures, gratuitous guitar indulgences or epic fifteen minute plus songs, choosing instead to make these polarising musical attributes their hallmark. However, in the interim eighteen or so months since the release of their last album Amputechture, The Mars Volta have had to overcome some unexpected hardships, including the loss of awe-inspiring drummer Jon Theodore. With the release of The Bedlam in Goliath the band has bandied about somewhat disturbing stories about destructive contact with the spiritual realm through an ominous Ouija they named The Soothsayer; make what you will of these claims, but this latest album comes from a band regrouping after a distinctly dark period, and the sense of defiance is palpable. The Bedlam in Goliath begins with a bang, immediately launching into a full-on aural assault. -

R&R CONCERT REVIEW EMOTION CONTROL QOTSA have kept their stage props to a But where Ronson’s star really seems to Intimacy and emotion seem to wash shine is in teasing out QOTSA hallmarks, over Queens of the Stone Age’s minimum, with no background visuals. A characteristic aggression set of illuminated rods segregate the band yet lacing them with the tinsel-fringed, Brit members on stage, lighting up in time to a rock glory. On “Feet Don’t Fail Me,” “The spitfire lightshow from above. The lack of Evil Has Landed” and “Domesticated An- distraction means we submit to the refined imals,” we’re treated to bass-heavy oper- force of the band’s tequila-soaked harmo- atics, foot- stomping chord cascades and nies and Homme’s desert banshee bari- ear-worming progressions. “Head Like a tone. In front of the stage, the sound is like Haunted House” blasts away any doubt your bedroom stereo turned to 11, the drum about the band’s roots in quiff and roost- beats hammering through your ribs. er rock—all California drive-in, and swing- Homme’s voice is bourbon honey on their dancing swagger. latest smash, “Feet Don’t Fail Me,” the band Similar to “…Like Clockwork,” Villains keeping the licks and riffs coming hard, fast sees the band’s Stooges and Black Flag and on point. QOTSA has been enjoying a urges set to simmer, with intimacy and particularly groovy moment in the sun with emotion washing over their characteristic the band’s seventh studio album Villains aggression. Homme’s ‘death’ on a surgeon’s taking the most global number one and two table in 2010, and his foray into marriage spots on the charts (number 3 in the US) in and fatherhood since, seem to have brought the band’s career. -

12 Modern Drummer June 2014 Booth #1219 Always on the go, Daru Jones desired a highly portable cymbal set for hip-hop sessions, DJ Jams, and other sit-ins that spontaneously present themselves, enabling him to preserve his personal sound in modern urban mobility. The concept was developed in the PST X series, which provides a suitable basis for the type of fast and dry sounds that perfectly fit the world of Hip-hop & Electronica percussion. It is executed with the DJs 45 set consisting of a 12" Crash, 12" Ride and 12" Hats. Interview: Rich Mangicaro - Photos: Rob Shanahan 015 Parents have a powerful and positive impact upon the development and health of their children. The relationship between father and son early on in life is crucial—dad is his son’s first role model. He is both consciously and subconsciously observed, and his words and actions are absorbed, even before the child’s first spoken word. With an artistic parent, a child can be influenced even while still in the womb; rhythms and melodies permeate mama’s belly and the child is most definitely affected by this. Some say it’s the beginning of ‘natural talent’ or ‘being born with it.’ Some say the child is an old soul. To have one child that is born with this natural artistic talent is quite something to behold, but to have four?! This is extraordinary. Thus is the case with the Wackerman family. Hailing from Orange County, California, this gifted musical family has inspired thousands of musicians worldwide. All four of Chuck and Barbara Wackerman’s sons are absolute virtuosos on their instrument. Three of their sons, Chad, John and Brooks became drummers like their dad. Equally as talented as his drumming brothers, Bob Wackerman chose the drummer’s right-hand instrument, the bass. -

Retro Goes Metro: a Track-By-Track Analysis of Villains by Queens Of
Bennett 1 Lauren Bennett Dr. O’Donnell Advanced Composition 4 December 2017 Retro Goes Metro A Track-by-Track Analysis of Villains by Queens of the Stone Age Today I felt the first coolness of fall. It’s finally October and so far the year 2017 has failed to accomplish any ideas of a futuristic/utopian pleasure-garden. The current earthly climate (besides being unusually warm) is socially dissonant to say the least. Politically—the “leadership” situation is downright absurd. Furthermore, I can’t help but find myself obsessing over change and fretting profusely that things may be changing for the worse. I have found several ways to escape this anxiety, and music is one of the safer ones. And even though I have always been able to rely on finding some sense of mental reconciliation in music, the sounds that have defined my core of auditory enjoyment—my rock-n-roll roots—have now waned. When I stop to assess the contemporary happenings of rock, I am, typically, shocked and horrified to find that a frenzy of electronic influence has seemingly debased everything that I have ever known to be righteous and upstanding in a time- This is the album cover for Villains. It was designed by a graphic artist named Boneface. They also designed for the album …Like Clockwork (2013). Bennett 2 worn genre that, since the 1950s, has been just fine. Hell, I find myself departing, entirely jaded, from the decades of the 20th century in terms of rock-n-roll. I’ve reached the point where I’m just ready to move on to something new. -
I Queens of the Stone Age Il 23 Giugno Al Lucca Summer Festival
