I welcome you all to the 62nd College Day Celebrations. I extend a whole hearted Welcome to the dignitaries present on the dias. I take this opportunity to welcome our Principal Rev. Dr. A. Jospin Nirmala Mary, Secretary Rev. Sr. Francis Pauline, Vice Principals, Rev. Dr. Fatima Mary, Dr. P. A. Mary and Mrs. Fernando Delishia without whose guidance and leadership this event would not have been possible. On behalf of the management and on my own behalf, I welcome Dr. John De Britto, Registrar, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli to 62nd College Day celebrations. Thank You Sir! for accepting our invitation. I feel honored, in introducing a great academician, eminent Scientist and administrator. He received his Doctorate in Botany. His other interests are Psychology and Computer Science and has degrees in both. In the words of Henry Adams A teacher effects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. Our chief guest has ignited the imagination and instilled a love of learning in the young minds for thirty long years. Being a researcher requires motivation and constant dedication. His quest for knowledge has made him, an avid researcher, for the past twenty five years. He is an enlightened seeker, who contributes to the body of knowledge and wisdom and renews the enthusiasm of the students. He has produced twenty five Ph.D. and 2 twenty four M.Phil. Scholars. He has completed eleven Major Projects, seven Minor Projects and three ongoing to his credit. He has published six books and 207 research articles. Our guest of honour is a great teacher, mentor and scholar who take joy in the process of inquiry and sharing his knowledge with others. He connects himself with vital intellectual communities beyond the walls of his university. He has presented sixty six papers in national and sixteen in international conferences. He is a member of, various professional bodies and expert committees. He has visited, many countries, like Japan, China, United Kingdom, USA, Finland, Australia, Czech Republic, Jordon, Portugal and Austria. Awards represent achievements. It is a kind of recognition, aimed to felicitate ones excellent contribution, in a chosen field. Our guest of honour, has received the best NSS programme officers Award by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The best Researcher Award in 2006, 2008 and 2012. He received Fr. T. A. Mathias memorial award for Innovative College Teachers of India, 2010-2011 by All India Association for Christian Higher Education, New Delhi. Dr. John De Britto is a successful administrator whose diligent effort and steadfast attitude, towards work and life is exactly what we all want to emulate. It’s my pleasure to extend a cheerful and warm welcome to my distinguished colleagues. I wish to welcome our non-teaching staff. I extend a warm welcome to our well-wishers and I feel honored in offering a happy welcome to the media. Last but not the least I welcome my dear students, who are the stars of the day. THANKS BE TO GOD FOR HIS INDESCRIBABLE GIFT OF THIS WONDERFUL 62ND COLLEGE DAY “O LORD, YOU ARE MY GOD; I WILL EXALT YOU AND PRAISE YOUR NAME, FOR IN PERFECT FAITHFULNESS YOU HAVE DONE WONDERFUL THINGS” - ISAIAH 25:1 I feel proud and privileged to present the Annual Report by highlighting the academic achievements of the staff and the students of this academic year 2014 - 2015 62 of our staff presented papers in International Conferences / Seminars. 65 members presented papers in National Conferences/Seminars. 3 members presented papers at State-level Conferences and Seminars. 40 Workshops, Seminars and guest lectures were held in our Campus, organised by various Departments. 6 members offered Consultancy Services. 4 6 members were awarded Doctorate Degrees & 5 have registered for the Doctorate programme. 112 Research papers in International/National Journals have been published by our faculty members. 1 Major research project is ongoing. 5 Minor researches have been completed. 4 books have been published by the faculty members. Saral Evangelin, Assistant Professor, Department of History presented a paper titled, “Christian Women Missionaries of American Madura Mission and Women Empowerment In Madurai” in the International Conference on ‘Women Empowerment & Social Sciences-2015’ organised by The American College, Madurai on Mar. 05, 2015. Dr. P. Anitha, Assistant Professor, The Research Centre of Economics presented a paper titled, “Veracity Analysis of SHGS in Economic Reinforcement of Women in Madurai District” in the International Conference on “Strategic innovation in Business: Past, Present and Future” organised by Nehru institute of Management, Coimbatore on Oct. 27, 2014. Dr. Sr. K. Fatima Mary, Vice-Principal & Associate Professor and Ms. V. Sofia Adaikala Mary, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology with CA presented a combined paper titled, “Women - The Social Transformers of Society” in the International Conference on “Women, Power and Social Change” organised by the Department of Sociology, Queen Mary’s College, Chennai on Aug. 20 & 21, 2014. Dr. M. Meenakumari, Head & Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology with CA presented a paper titled, “Women Bread Winners - Are They Really Empowered?” in the International conference on “Woman Power & Social Change” organised by the Department of Sociology, Queen Mary’s College(Autonomous), Chennai on Aug. 20 & 21, 2014. 5 Ms. M. Suganya, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology with CA presented a paper titled, “A Sociological Study on Health Seeking Behaviour of Antenatal Women in Madurai District of Tamil Nadu” in the International conference on “Women Power & Social Change” organised by the Dept of Sociology, Queen Mary’s College, on Aug. 20 & 21, 2014. Kala, Assistant Professor, The Research Centre of English presented a paper titled, “Alternative Aesthetics in Om Prakash Valmiki’s Joothan: A Dalit’s Life” in the International Conference on “Indian Writing in English: Current Critical Approaches” organised by Sri Venketeswara College of Education & Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi on Mar. 15, 2014. Dr. S. J. Kala, Assistant Professor, The Research Centre of English presented a paper titled, “Ecoimperialism in Mahasweta Devi’s The Book of The Hunter and Naryan’s Kocharethi” in the International Conference on “Towards Ecocultural Ethics” organised by Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani from Oct. 09 to 11, 2014. Saira Banu, Associate Professor, The Research Centre of English presented a paper titled, “Cultural Identity in Sally Morgan’s My Place” in the International Conference on “Culture, Identity: Australia-India” organised by the University of Madras, Chennai from Dec. 08 to 10, 2014. Dr. P. V. Christi Shanthi, Associate Professor, The Research Centre of English presented a paper titled, “Judith Wright’s Deep Ecological Vision: A Study” in the UGC sponsored International Conference on “Solutions to Ecological Challenges: Multidimensional Perspectives” organised by The Research Centres of Economics, English & Tamil and the Depts. of Physics, Chemistry, Zoology & Home Science in collaboration with DHAN Foundation from Dec. 11 to 13, 2014. Dr. S. Dr. N. Renuka, Assistant Professor, The Research Centre of Tamil presented a paper titled, “Kavirayar Bharathiyar Parvayil Paanjali” in the 9th International Conference – Seminar on ‘Tamil Studies’ organised by IATR & the University of Malaysia,
