Download the Press Release Here! Press Release Seven giant sculptures of Shaun the Sheep designed and painted by British artists welcome guests to star studded premiere of Shaun the Sheep The Movie History was made in Leicester Square earlier today as seven giant sculptures of internationally-acclaimed animated character Shaun the Sheep made their debut on the green carpet for the premiere of Shaun the Sheep The Movie, created by Bristol studio Aardman Animations. Whilst Leicester Square has been the site of some of Britain's greatest film premieres, this is the first time that seven giant (5ft) Shaun the Sheep sculptures designed and decorated by British artists have graced a star-studded gala. The sculptures made their international debut ahead of this year’s hotly anticipated Shaun in the City arts trails which will see 120 sculptures of Shaun the Sheep placed in iconic locations and green spaces in London and Bristol in 2015 in aid of Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation, the group charity raising funds for children in hospitals across the UK. Adding to the green carpet glamour were Shaun the Sheep sculptures Yeoman of the Baaard, Ewe-nion Jack, Lenny, Shaun, Mossy Bottom, The Pearly King and Petal, which will be among 50 Shaun in the City sculptures placed in and around London from 28th March to 25th May 2015. The eight-week trail will see fifty giant sculptures springing up in key, central locations around the capital including the City of London, Westminster, Southbank and iconic tourist destinations. Shaun in the City is being organised by the team behind Bristol’s multi-award winning Gromit Unleashed arts trail in 2013, which raised over £2.3 million at auction for The Grand Appeal. All funds raised by the Shaun in the City arts trails will support children in hospitals around the UK as well as Bristol Children’s Hospital. Shaun the Sheep creator Nick Park is closely involved with the project and will be designing one of the sculptures on the trail himself. Nick Park said “It’s wonderful to see these vibrant and witty sculpture designs showcased on the green carpet for the Shaun the Sheep premiere. I’m looking forward to seeing more designs in iconic locations across the capital this spring. I think London is in for a treat!” Nick Park will be joined by an eclectic array of high-profile artists, designers, celebrities and local talent, who will each bring their individual talent to customise a giant sculpture for the major tourist attraction. The line- up of prestigious artists and celebrities will be revealed soon. Nicola Masters, Director of Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Foundation, said “Shaun the Sheep is one of Britain’s best loved characters and we’re delighted to be staging the world’s first Shaun in the City trail this spring by bringing 50 decorated sheep to the heart of the capital. The sculptures are expected to draw international attention with visitors from across the globe, whilst raising vital funds to support children in hospitals.” After the London trail, a further trail of 70 giant Shaun the Sheep sculptures will be displayed in Bristol during July and August. Following both trails, in autumn 2015 the two flocks will go on display to the general public, prior to a grand auction to raise money for sick children in hospitals across the UK. I established my practice in 2010 and work with a mixture of materials from vitreous glass and ceramic through to natural marble and slate, often incorporating individual pieces of vintage porcelain or found materials. I am largely inspired by the natural environment and like to work in a freehand and organic way guided by the materials from which I am working. Materials are skilfully cut and shaped by hand, which in turn makes each design unique and a one off. I work on a variety of public and private commissions, schools and community arts projects and run a programme of workshops from my Edwalton studio. Clients include schools, councils, community groups, businesses and a variety of private customers. Professional member of the British Association for Modern Mosaic. • 2007 Annual Report
2007 Annual Report As a celebration of the creative spirit that drives everything we do at DreamWorks Animation, we held an artwork contest in 2007 in which we invited all employees to submit a design to be featured in the Annual Report. Every submission celebrated the unique and fulfilling process of working on an animated film at the Company. Rhion Magee, Consumer Products, created the winning submission. Dear Fellow Shareholders, I am pleased to report that 2007 was our most successful year since we took DreamWorks Animation public in 2004, thanks in large part to the blockbuster success of Shrek the Third and the Shrek franchise as a whole. In addition to boasting the best domestic opening in the history of animated film, Shrek the Third became the second highest grossing film of 2007 in the U.S. and the fourth best performing animated movie of all time. Even in a challenging home video market, Shrek the Third has risen above the competition and performed well. In 2007, we advanced our mission to successfully expand the Shrek brand with Shrek the Halls, our first made-for-television special. Over 21 million people throughout the U.S. watched the program this past holiday season on ABC. Additionally, Shrek made his first appearance at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as the official 2007 Ambassador for the event. In December, we will take our brand expansion one step further by bringing Shrek the Musical to the Broadway Theatre in New York City. We are very excited about this tremendous opportunity to further extend one of the most successful franchises in Hollywood history.

  • Masculinity in Children's Film
Masculinity in Children’s Film The Academy Award Winners Author: Natalie Kauklija Supervisor: Mariah Larsson Examiner: Tommy Gustafsson Spring 2018 Film Studies Bachelor Thesis Course Code 2FV30E Abstract This study analyzes the evolution of how the male gender is portrayed in five Academy Award winning animated films, starting in the year 2002 when the category was created. Because there have been seventeen award winning films in the animated film category, and there is a limitation regarding the scope for this paper, the winner from every fourth year have been analyzed; resulting in five films. These films are: Shrek (2001), Wallace and Gromit (2005), Up (2009), Frozen (2013) and Coco (2017). The films selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Animated Feature film category tend to be both critically and financially successful, and watched by children, young adults, and adults worldwide. How male heroes are portrayed are generally believed to affect not only young boys who are forming their identities (especially ages 6-14), but also views on gender behavioral expectations in girls.
