Rascal Flatts At the Ready to Support Tennessee National Guard and GYB

The three members of Rascal Flatts--Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and --have been involved in many charitable endeavors throughout their career and believe in the gift of giving back. However, one cause strikes particularly close to home, as the lyrics to their poignant song Why illustrate.

"Having been personally affected by suicide," says DeMarcus, "it's important for me to do all that we can to heighten awareness and increase prevention." All three members had difficulty recording the song, because they all knew someone who had committed suicide.

That's what moved Rascal Flatts to initially partner "Oh, why? that's what I keep askin' with The Jason Foundation, an educational Was there anything I could have said or done? organization dedicated to the awareness and Oh, I had no clue you were masking a prevention of youth suicide, and serve as troubled soul, God only knows what Ambassadors. suicide or life in general, and how to help.

Similarly, they readily came on board to support The Jason Foundation and the Tennessee National Guard in launching the GYB initiative to promote awareness and prevention among Guard Members.

"We look forward to helping give people the right tools to recognize the signs," shared Gary LeVox. "Guard Members, as well as our youth, need to know they have options and there are people that want to help them."

Adds DeMarcus, "We are proud to be partners with The Jason Foundation and we are looking forward to doing our part in trying to help them save even more lives as we work alongside them and the Tennessee National Guard in the hopes that no one ever has to ask why again."

Fast Fact: Rascal Flatts' founding was at Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar in Nashville, Tennessee. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus are second cousins from a musical family: DeMarcus's brother-in-law, James Otto, is also a country music artist.

Later This Month : 's Upbeat Take on Depression

This is a story that you may say has roots in Tennessee. Nine-time Grammy winner Sheryl Crow's , titled 100 Miles from Memphis, is actually the distance from her hometown in Missouri to Memphis. And while the album is an ode to her musical journey, it also reflects another, more personal journey--her lifelong battles with depression.
