It may be that I am not as familiar with the Eric Carle books as everyone else seems to be but I thought this was the chameleon taking on the color of The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book animal, and each page would have an illustration of the animal he is copying. I could read to my kid about colors, chameleons, and animals. While it is beautifully illustrated, instead each page he gets a new body part of an animal. He ends up looking a bit horrifying, or comical depending on you. All the animals are on the 4th page in, but after that it is just mutant body parts. The first page says that the chameleon turns the color of the things he's on and the end has a cute message. It is a lovely book, but maybe for an older kid, I was hoping to give it to my daughter for her second birthday, and I don't think it is appropriate. I took these pics so others know what it is about and sent it back. Book arrived in perfect condition, was about the size I expected smaller board book. Maybe should done different animal prints on the chameleon instead of adding a wing here or a beak there. From the elephant? My 4 year old loves this book. Checking each page to see which new mixed up body part the chameleon gains is so much fun. We've read it a couple dozen times already and he still laughs like crazy each time. The Mixed up Chameleon is very in line with the other 2 but a little bit more of story than 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. A classic in our collection. Beautiful story and illustrations. My kids love it and we learned about animals and colors with it. The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book material is very good and durable. It has survived two toddlers without damage. Be sure this is the right size for you as it is a medium size, perfect for toddler hands. My son loves all things Carle and this was another one he adored! It is a super cute story about a chameleon who wants to be The Mixed-Up Chameleon Board Book animals but who in the end just wants to be himseld. Great for toddlers!! My 4 year old loves it.
