SWEDISH (SVENSKA)
Where the language is spoken Swedish is the sole official language in Sweden and one of two official languages in Finland (Finnish and Swedish). Swedish speakers extend to countries around the world, including Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.
About the language Swedish is mutually intelligible with Danish and Norwegian (there are commonalities between these languages that allows speakers to understand one another). Swedish has distinct regional varieties which stem from older rural dialects; however, the written and spoken language is standard. Some of these regional varieties differ in grammar and vocabulary, when compared to Standard Swedish. Standard Swedish word order is subject- verb- object, although like English can be changed to stress certain words or phrases.
History of Swedish Swedish is a descendant from the Old Norse, the common language spoken by Germanic people living in Scandinavia during the Viking Era.
