ICE CHIPS: April 2, 2021, 4:00pm (SK time), 5:00pm (MB time) Winnipeg ICE @ Prince Albert Raiders Brandt Centre, Regina SK LAST GAME: Anderson MacDonald (2) and Connor McClennon (5) scored as the ICE fell 3-2 to the first-place Saskatoon Blades in a hard-fought game Wednesday night. MacDonald opened the scoring in the first period, and McClennon’s goal moved Winnipeg within a goal when trailing 3-1 in the third period, but the ICE fell short. Gage Alexander made 25 saves in the setback. SCENE SETTER: The ICE look to go 2-and-0 against the Prince Albert Raiders tonight after edging P.A. 3-2 in overtime in the team’s first meeting back on March 21st. Cole Muir tied the contest with 4:22 to go in the third period and Connor McClennon won it just 35 seconds into the extra-period. Gage Alexander made 20 stops for the victory. The 14th overall pick in the 2020 WHL Draft now has nine points in ten career games. Krebs Extends Streak: Peyton Krebs carries a nine-game point streak (6 goals, 12 assists) into tonight’s contest and has six multi-point efforts in those nine games. Double Duty for Krebs: Krebs was named WHL Player of the Week Krebs, and selected for the East Division Team-of-the-Week - Presented by RE/MAX, after recording 11 points in four games during the week ending March 28th. Krebs Milestone Man: Krebs hit 150 WHL assists with two helpers against Moose Jaw Sunday, March 28th. Also, Peyton’s goal versus Swift Current Friday, March 26th was the 200th point of his WHL career. Krebs’ first point was an assist in Lethbridge in his WHL debut on November 16, 2016. Scoring Centurion: Forward Owen Pederson has 11 points in his last eight games (5 goals, 6 assists) and played his 100th WHL game versus Swift Current, Monday, March 15th. McClennon Hits A Hundred: Connor McClennon played his 100th Western Hockey League game vs Brandon, Thursday, March 25th. The second overall pick in the 2017 WHL Draft reached a century with 88 points to his credit (39 goals, 49 assists). No Small Feat: Jakin Smallwood has eight goals in ten games to start the season. WHL Firsts From The Hub: March 23 vs Regina, Chase Bertholet scored his first WHL goal. March 18th @ Moose Jaw, Skyler Bruce and Rhys Raeside each recorded their first WHL point assisting on Cole Muir’s insurance goal, while goalie Carl Stankowski notched his first ICE win. March 15th vs Swift Current, Zach Benson had his first goal, first assist, and first multi-point game. 2004-born Conor Geekie notched his first assist to earn his first point streak (2 games). After scoring 85 QMJHL goals, Anderson MacDonald notched his first Dub goal. And, 2004 born goalie Daniel Hauser collected the win in his first WHL appearance. Powerplay Consistency: The ICE scored a powerplay goal in each of their first nine games, and counted 13 powerplay goals in 44 advantages (29.5%), before being blanked by Saskatoon, Wednesday, March 31st. Winnipeg was 22.5% effective on the powerplay last season, tops in the East Division scoring 58 PPG in 63 games. PK Boost: Winnipeg penalty killers were 3-for-4 versus Saskatoon leaving them 30-for-35 on the season (85.7%) with two shorthanded goals. ICE streak stopped: Winnipeg’s season-high five-game win streak ended Thursday, March 25th with a 4-3 loss to Brandon. The ICE out-scored the opposition 24-12 over the five matches with ten special teams goals - 8 PPG and 2 SHG. Back-to-Back: Tonight marks the start of Winnipeg’s third back-to-back set in the Hub. Winnipeg is 1-1-0-0 in the second games of those sets so far. The club plays a total of six back-to-backs this season. Home Kings: 4-2-0-0 at home to start 2021, the ICE went 20-8-1-0 within the East Division in 2019-20 for the best record among the six teams.     Now a Current Assistant Coach of the WHL's Lethbridge

    PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES MIKE CRAIG – Lethbridge Hurricanes (November 14) Now a current assistant coach of the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes, Mike had a highly decorated Junior hockey career, including winning a Memorial Cup alongside Eric Lindros with the Oshawa Generals, as well as winning a World Junior gold medal with Team Canada twice. He was also a first round draft choice, 28th overall, by the Minnesota North Stars. Mike would go on to play 423 NHL games for the North Stars, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks, as well as 11 seasons in Europe. FRAN GOW – Hockey Alberta (November 28 and December 5) Fran is currently a Coach Mentor in Hockey Development for Hockey Alberta, as well as the Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Most notably, Fran is one of only three coaches in AJHL history to coach 1,000 regular season games. He achieved this great feat while coaching the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, Grande Prairie Storm, and Drayton Valley Thunder. Fran won an RBC Cup with Fort McMurray in 2000. MATT WENINGER – Hockey Alberta (December 12) Matt is currently the Consultant for Hockey Alberta’s South Regional Centre. He played minor hockey in Lethbridge before moving on to play three seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He then accepted an NCAA Division I scholarship to St. Lawrence University, graduating as the school’s all-time leader in games played and saves, and was second in all- time wins and shutouts. His coaching career includes stops with Laurentian University (CIS), the University of Lethbridge (CIS), the Yorkton Terriers (SJHL), and extensive work for the Saskatchewan Hockey Association before joining Hockey Alberta.
