Amy Tinkler and have been crowned senior all-around men’s and women’s British Champions at the Echo Area, in a thrilling day of world class gymnastics action.

In the men’s event, Daniel Purvis, who last won the British all-around title back in 2012, took the top spot in convincing style. The experienced gymnast put in clean performances across all six pieces of apparatus to take the title with 88.500.

He said after ““I’m really, really happy to be the champion again. When you get older and see these incredible young gymnasts coming through you begin to doubt yourself so to again be British Champion is really satisfying. The energy I got from the home crowd was unbelievable, really out there with any competition I’ve ever done it definitely helped me to the title.”

It was Dan’s teammate and fellow Scot, Frank Baines who took the silver medal. After a few nervy competitions of late, the 2012 Junior European Champion proved here he has what it takes to challenge the best. He finished with 86.350.

Completing the podium was of Loughborough Students and of Pegasus who tied for the bronze medal. James Hall has improved immensely in the past year and this position proves the hard work is paying off. Sam Oldham had to count a few major errors but looked good back on all six pieces of apparatus and will be sure to build on this experience.

In 5th place was City of ’s (85.500) and 6th South Essex’s (83.950).

In the women’s all-around event it was first year senior gymnast and the current English Champion, Amy Tinkler from South Durham who rose the challenge and took the gold. Amy showed plenty of consistent and confident work including an impressive routine packed with difficulty. With a clean competition she scored 56.650.

Amy was elated afterwards saying “It's amazing I can't believe it! To be honest I would have just been happy to go through my routines cleanly but to win is just unreal. The support I've had from coaches, friends, teammates has been incredible an absolute dream come. To go from junior to senior champion I can believe it, I'm excited to now hopefully be selected for the European Championships and just continue improving."

It was the ‘pocket rocket’ of Bristol Hawks who took the silver medal. Claudia showed some impressive work which included a world class score of 14.900 on the floor exercise. Putting in several upgrades to her routines since winning Commonwealth gold last summer, Claudia unfortunately had to count a fall on her beam exercise. Nothertheless the starlet looks to be improving after each competition. She finished with a score of 55.550.

Taking the bronze was the younger of the Downie sisters Ellie. Ellie, who competes for Notts Gymnastics Club was coming back from a minor injury and although started with a fall on the floor exercise pulled it back with impressive routines on the rest of the apparatus. Not competing to her full difficulty and counting a fall Ellie still scored and impressive 54.950.

Tying for 4th place overall was Dynamo’s and Cardiff Central’s Angel Romaeo (53.100). Finishing in 6th was Angel’s teammate Raer Theaker (52.950).

Today also doubled up as the men’s apparatus finals. On the floor, Daniel Purvis and tied for first with 15.300. Both gymnasts scored exactly the same execution and difficulty therefore shared the title.

On the pommel horse it was MBE (Huntingdon GC) who took the title, looking impressive and confident on his sole piece of apparatus to take the crown. It was (South Essex) and Sam Oldham who tied for silver. Max who had to pull out of the all-around event due to illness still managed to take the silver even with a fall.
