2 www.phoenixcollegiate.org Shakespeare Quiz On Monday 23rd April to celebrate William Shakespeare’s birthday the Learning Resource Centre decided to hold one of our popular lunchtime quizzes. The quiz was open to Years 7 to 11. Key stage three were learning all about Shakespeare in their English lessons, so we thought we could find out how much they actually knew. There were thirty questions to answer, with questions about his life, his plays and his sonnets. We had put a display up in the library all about Shakespeare so some of the answers to the questions were on the display board, for those of them that were observant enough to notice. We had pupils from Years 7 to 10 registering to take part with our two winners from Year 8 and Year 9. The two Shakespeare experts were Ryan Kendrick from Year 9 and Beatrice Frimpong-Manso from Year 8 who won a voucher to spend in the Scholastic book club. Well done to both of them.

www.phoenixcollegiate.org 3 Business and Creative Technologies Year 9 NCFE Qualification in Developing Enterprise Skills This year has seen the first cohort of 75 Year 9 students completing a qualification in developing enterprise skills. Studying for the qualification has involved students having to understand and explore enterprise skills in the world of work, plan and carry out an enterprising project, and evaluate their own enterprising skills as part of their own self development. Students have undertaken enterprise projects that have incorporated aspects of art, technology and business skill development. Examples of enterprising projects that have been undertaken include a themed biscuit project and a trophy/award project. Both staff and students who have completed and delivered the course are thanked for all of their hard work and effort this year.
