Miss Apple Festival 2005 - Dori Lloyd

Sponsored by Lloyd's TV

Since her crowning last year, Dori has been actively working towards her goal of attaining a degree in Accounting and then becoming a Certified Public Accountant. She is a sophomore at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she also works in the Financial Aid Office on campus. In addition to her work, Dori has been named to the Dean's List for three consecutive semesters and is a member of the University Honors Program. Our retiring Queen seems to be very happy to live in Southern Illinois and she has stated, "I plan to live and work in Southern Illinois forever!" Her love for this area is evident because she always has a bright smile on her face and has enjoyed all of her duties as Miss Apple Festival. Dori is very active in her church, volunteers for the Youth Croup and has been a member of Relay for Life for three years. Our retiring Queen has been able to balance scholastic achievements as well as service achievements. Her high school credits include: National Honor Society member, Class Officer, Student Council class representative, Spanish Club member, Cheerleader, Volleyball Team, Track Team, Rotary Club student of the month, peer leader for Teens Against Tobacco Use, selected for Who's Who Among High School Students, and member of the Outdoor Club. Her enjoyment for outdoor activities was evident early in her life because Dori recalls, "I have been a caver since before I could walk." Dori's sister, Elizabeth, was the 1st Runner-up in the 2004 Miss Apple Festival Pageant, and Dori decided to run because her sister had such an enjoyable experience. Dori has been a very warm and friendly ambassador for the Apple Festival and even though her reign is ending, she will un doubtedly cherish her "Famous First" year as Miss Apple Festival 2005. 55th Annual Apple Time 2005 Apple Festival Prince and Princess

The Clarkes team is named for a man who was significant in the development of Murphysboro in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It is interesting that, at this time, we are unsure exactly which of two Mr. Clarkes we are honoring. One account tells us that the early Clarkes team was named after the park where the team played, which was in turn named after the park's owner, a Mr. Clarke, who was an official on the M. & O. (Mobile and Ohio) Railroad. During the years of the early Clarkes' tenure, however, there were two Mr. Clarkes in Murphysboro and both were connected with the Mobile and Ohio. We know that Mr. Horace W. Clarke was a well known citizen of Murphysboro, who in 1890 became an M & O Mobile and Ohio Railroad Superintendent. He was interested in the Clarke and Logan Addition to the City of Murphysboro and was also a stockholder in the City National Bank. It is said of Mr. Horace Clarke that he BOST devoted himself untiringly to his work, and that he was pleasant and genial in his manner winning him popularity MURPHYSBORO, IL and a wide circle of warm friends. Brian Free and Assurance debuted on the Gospel music scene with their self-titled recording in 1994. With that recording, Brian was able to demonstrate that he was going to remain true to performing Southern Gospel music delivered with a distinctive flair that was unquestionably Brian Free. As with most new ventures, changes came early and often. But with each challenge, Assurance continued to stabilize its position in the Southern Gospel radio airplay charts and with leading pastors and promoters. Brian Free and Assurance were quickly rewarded for their dedication and diligence with multiple awards and recognition. These included the Singing News Fan Award for Album of the Year ( 4 God So Loved) and Song of the Year (For God So Loved) from the Southern Gospel Music Association. In addition to concert performances across the United States, Brian Free and Assurance toured Northern Ireland, were featured regularly on the Gaither Video Series, and appeared on TNN and TBN. In 1997, the g group represented Southern Gospel music and the National Convention on NBC's "Today" show. However, in 1998, Brian Free arrived at another crossroads. Feeling God's call on his life to preach the Gospel, Brian decided to pursue his ministerial license and ordination. Knowing the time and attention this would demand, Brian successfully transited into a solo career that perfectly complimented his studies and allowed him to achieve his goal.
