 Celebrating its fourth year as a Premier event, this year’s tournament includes three Top-10 players: Petra Kvitova, and  Last year’s champion Kvitova will be returning to defend her title, while champion in 2017 and runner-up in 2018 Kristina Mladenovic will also participate in the main draw alongside former semifinalists Julia Goerges and Daria Kasatkina  Kvitova arrives fresh from finishing runner-up to at the – her third final and first since winning 2014 Wimbledon. She also returns to No.2 in the ranking  The home country will be well represented as five different Russian players will be competing in the main draw: Daria Kasatkina, and Maria Sharapova along with two wild cards, Ekaterina Makarova and Vera Zvonareva  One To Watch – Olga Danilovic, who only turned 18 earlier this month, is making her debut at St. Petersburg and has good memories of competing in Russia, having won last year’s Moscow River Cup. By doing so she not only became the first lucky loser to win a WTA title but also the first player born in the 2000s to do so
