UW To “Think Pink”: Washington will participate in the WBCA’s (Women’s Basketball Coaches Association) “Think Pink” initiative during the week of Feb. 8-17. “Think Pink” is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to in raising breast cancer awareness. Husky players will wear pink warm-up shirts and shoelaces, as well as pink ribbons on their uniform jerseys, while UW coaches will also wear pink. Whitcomb, who has started 23 of 24 games after coming off the bench for the most part as a freshman, is right behind Katelan Redmon with 11.1 points per game. Whitcomb has excelled PAC-10 CONFERENCE on both ends of the floor, beginning the week second in the Pac-10 in steals (2.17) and is third in the league in three-pointer made (1.92). She is coming off a career-high scoring effort of 2007-08 PAC-10 STANDINGS 27 points against UCLA, Sunday, the most by any Husky this season. She tallied back-to-back (through Sunday, Feb. 10) career high rebounding outings with 10 boards vs. UCLA (Jan. 10) and a career-high 12 vs. USC (Jan. 13). Whitcomb also has two 19-point scoring efforts versus Oregon State and Arkansas TEAM PAC-10 OVERALL State. Whitcomb has 12 double-figure scoring games this season and including an 18-point 1. California 12-1 (.923) 21-3 (.875) scoring output versus Purdue, Dec. 21. Whitcomb helped sparked the second-half comeback 2. Despite being the smallest Husky on the floor at 5-5, Florence has pulled down at Thur., Feb. 14 - Arizona at Stanford least seven rebounds 12 times this season including a team-high 10 vs. Pepperdine Dec. 4, a Arizona State at California team-high nine vs. Purdue, Dec. 21, eight at No. 2 Stanford (Dec. 28), 10 vs. USC (Jan. 13) and a team-high nine vs. USC (Feb. 8). She grabbed a career-high 11 boards versus Hawaii earlier Fri., Feb. 15 - Oregon at Washington in the year. Florence has four double-figure scoring games, having tallied a career-high 15 Oregon State at Washington State points in the squad’s season debut at Kansas State, 11 points vs. Arkansas State (Nov. 25) and 10 at Boise State (Dec. 7). Florence was just one shy of a double-double with the Lady Sat., Feb. 16 - Arizona at California Indians, a stat that is surely on its way for the Husky senior. UW lost by 17 points to the Buckeyes (54-71), by 26 at Cal (66-40) and by 35 at Stanford (77-42). Applin came to Washington after spending the last three seasons as an assistant at Wake Forest.
