> Home TamilNadu Map District Profile Print PROFILE • Coimbatore district is bounded by Kerala State in the West and South, in the East, and parts of Nilgiris and Erode Districts in the North. • The District lies between 10º 13'00” N to 11º 23' 30”N Latitude, 76º 39'00”E to 77º 30'00”E Longitude and has an areal extent of 7649 sq.km. • There are 12 Blocks, 228 Village panchayats and 2238 Habitations in the District'

Physiography and Drainage: • The North western part and the Southern part of the Coimbatore is occupied by hill ranges of Western Ghats, namely Nilgiris hills in the North­West and Anamalai hills in the South. • The most part of the district forms parts of Cauvery river basin where as the South western part of the district comes under Ponnani River basin. • The major river courses which come under Cauvery basin are Bhavani, Noyyal and Amaravathi. • The South western part of the district is drained by tributaries of Ponnani, namely Palar, Aliyar and Uppar originating from Anamalai hills.

Sustainability: With a view to enhance the Sustainability of the drinking water sources, recharge structures are being implemented by TWAD Board under various State and Central Government assistances. The Recharge Structures implemented so far is as under.
