Gill Dilpreet Kaur 5A Learning English through Short Stories

Learning English through Short Stories The Reading Club at your school is planning to hold a reading week to promote students’ interest in reading and to improve their English. One planned event is a ‘Meet the Author’ evening, when students get to meet a famous author.

As the chairperson of the Club, you have been asked to choose one author to invite for the event. Write an email to Ms Li, the English teacher in charge of the Reading Club, mentioning your choice of author. Explain why you have selected that author, and suggest activities the author can lead or help with.

Dear Ms Li,

I have chosen the author “”. He has written many successful novels such as “Half Girlfriend”, “”, “2 States”, “”, etc. All of them are based on true stories. His novel “2 States” and “Five Point Someone” were based on his life. These were movies released based on his novels “2 States” and “Five Point Someone” ().

I have picked this author because he is an inspiration to our school kids, who like reading his books. He taught us how to get through hardships in life including love, life and career problems. He may have advice for us so I would like to invite him.

Mr Bhagat now judges an Indian reality TV show of talent, so I was thinking, first we can hold like a mini-talent show where he can watch our students perform at their best and give us tips and encourage us. Secondly, we can also organise some games like “Would you rather.” “Would you rather” is a game where you ask your guest some questions saying would you rather and the guest has to answer what he’d rather do. It is a game to get to know more about each other. Thirdly, we can also ask him to introduce his new book and upcoming movies. Lastly we will have some time for questions and answers as well as signing some books.

I hope we can learn a lot of him and he may learn a few things from us. I hope you would approve my suggestions and choice.

Sincerely, Chris Wong
