This study was carried out, through a total of 271 scuba dives, from 2017 to the beginning of 2020 in four sites located along the Ionian coasts of Sicily: Catania, Aci Trezza, Santa Maria La Scala and Santa Tecla. Through a photographic data collection, 95 taxa, representing 17.27% of all Mediterranean marine Heterobranchia, were reported. The order with the highest number of found species was that of Nudibranchia. Among the study areas, Catania, Santa Maria La Scala and Santa Tecla had not a remarkable difference in the number of species, while Aci Trezza had the lowest number of species. Moreover, among the 95 taxa, four species considered rare and six non-indigenous species have been recorded. Since the presence of a high diversity of sea slugs in a relatively small area, the central-eastern coast of Sicily could be considered a zone of high biodiversity for the marine Heterobranchia fauna. Nudibranch gastropods are carnivores and most dorid nudibranchs are spongi- vores, preying on a single or a few species of sponges. The feeding biology has important biological, ecological and evolutionary implications, and many charac- teristics of nudibranchs likely arose from co-evolution with diet organisms. Data on spongivory by dorid nudibranchs are available for many species from the Indo- Pacific, eastern Pacific and the Mediterranean Sea, but such information is scarce for the southwestern Atlantic. In this study we provide qualitative data on spongi- vory by dorid nudibranchs along the coast of Rio de Janeiro State, southeastern Brazil, including the identification of the species involved. A total of 94 spongi- vory events were observed between 12 nudibranch and 13 sponge species, greatly expanding our knowledge of predator-prey interactions. Among the sponges preyed upon, one species belongs to the class Homoscleromorpha (Plakina sp.) and 12 species to the class Demospongiae. Our observations show that spongivorous nudibranchs have a more diverse diet than previously thought. Additional observa- tions on a higher number of species from different biogeographic regions are needed for a better understanding of the feeding preferences of the diverse and ecologically important spongivorous dorid nudibranchs. -

This note reports for the first time the occurrence of B. verrucicornis in Brittany. In addi- tion, it is also the northernmost record for this species. Its distributional range is thereby increased by 200 km to the north. Until now, only 19 species of heterobranch sea slugs have been formally reported from this area; this number constitutes a fraction of total diversity in the Caribbean region. Results: Based on newly conducted fieldwork, we increase the number of recorded heterobranch sea slug species in Bocas del Toro to 82. Descriptive information for each species is provided, including taxonomic and/or ecological notes for most taxa. The collecting effort is also described and compared with that of other field expeditions in the Caribbean and the tropical Eastern Pacific. Conclusions: This increase in known diversity strongly suggests that the distribution of species within the Caribbean is still poorly known and species ranges may need to be modified as more surveys are conducted. To date, eight ‘opisthobranch’ species were reported from the island. As a result of a recent survey, 10 species were found. Seven species are new records from Ascension: Platydoris angustipes (Mo¨rch, 1863), Diaulula sp., Dolabrifera dolabrifera (Rang, 1828), Aplysia parvula Guilding in Mo¨rch, 1863 and Caliphylla mediterranea A. Costa, 1867, and two new species: Phidiana mimica sp. nov.; and Felimida atlantica sp. nov. Half of the species found have a wide geographical distribution, being not restricted to the Atlantic Ocean. However, traditional taxonomy based on few char- acters is probably masking complexes of species. Recent molluscan types currently housed in the Malacology Section of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County are listed herein. Each type lot entry includes original species/subspecies name, original genus, author, original citation, type status, LACM number, number of specimens and preservation, type locality or collection locality, collector [if known], date collected [if known], and current taxonomic status if different from original description. INTRODUCTION This catalog is published in accordance with Recommendation 72F.4 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (Ride & others, 2000:79). This listing includes all molluscan type material currently housed at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and supercedes the type listing of Sphon (1971). To date 1922 molluscan type lots (71,000+ specimens) are reported for 1147 species and 99 subspecies, which includes 589 holotypes, 1277 paratype lots, 10 lectotypes, 13 paralectotype lots, 29 syntype lots, 3 neotypes, and 2 neotype lots in 550+ references. Type categories listed include: Holotype (in red), paratype(s) (in blue), syntype(s) (in orange), lectotype (in pink), paralectotype(s) (in aqua), and neotype and/or neotype lots (in brown) as defined by Ride & others (2000).
