Seasons greetings from the Music Room/ Bible story time at Temple Preschool,

This year starts my 7th year teaching the music at the preschool and my 4th doing the Bible stories. Wow! We have been very busy since school started. We have lots of new faces this year so we have worked on learning lots of new songs along with doing some of our favorites. In early November, our pre-K classes held our Daddy’s night. Each class performed their own song or poem they had prepared for their Dads/Grandpas, then we sang a song as a group. This was followed by an activity/song that the kids really enjoy and had fun teaching it to their dads. We also participated in the sec- ond worship service on Veteran’s Day by singing a few songs for the congregation. We had over 30 kids participate, which continues to be a wonderful turnout! (I may have tried to guilt trip some of the kids into encouraging their parents into bringing them.) Our kids have also been hard at work preparing songs for our Christmas program, which will be on Thursday, December 20th this year. Our theme is “A Country Christmas”.

Bible Stories have been lots of fun as well. I get the privilege of seeing the children several times during the week. We started in Genesis with the creation story. Then was Noah, always a favorite. This year we learned about Rebekah, a bride for Isaac, and then Jacob and Esau. We have learned about Moses, the baby in the basket, parting the Red Sea, and the Ten Commandments. The kids are really doing well absorbing all the Bible history and knowledge. I love it when they really understand. Plus they know that God made everything, even them, that God is always with them and God can do anything. Season’s greetings, Melanie Hinze, Music teacher /Bible teacher

Have you heard? Through our hard work, faithful giving, prayers, and God’s blessings, we have made a huge dent on the principal of our mortgage debt. And, we praise God! Our indebtedness on the building renovation project many years ago is well below $190,000! This debt has been hanging over our heads for a long time and we want to be freed up to do the ministry that God has called us to do. Let’s give from the abundance of what God has blessed us. Any gift marked “debt reduction,” no matter the size, will be applied to the principal.

As we continue our commitment to the work of Christ . . . Have you considered making a year-end gift that is tax-deductible and would benefit God’s ministry in major ways?

Have you considered donating appreciate stock? Did you know that if you do- nate appreciated stock that you have held for more than a year, you can take a charitable deduction for the stock’s fair market value on the day you give it away if you itemize deductions and avoid capital-gains taxes on the increase in value over time.

Have you considered leaving a legacy for God’s work beyond your lifetime? Your Endowment Committee and Pastor Rebecca will be happy to assist you in any of your planned giving efforts to ensure the work of Christ continues into the future.

Page 11 (continued from page 2)

The second advent refers to the return of Christ … the time when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Phil 2:10a, 11). That day is coming. And until that day comes, we wait. We prepare. We embrace the advent reality.

Don’t rush Advent! It passes all too quickly anyway. Each Sunday as we light the candles of the Advent , we focus on one of the themes: hope, peace, joy, love, and then the light of Jesus on . What does it mean to you to have the hope, peace, joy, love, and light of Christ in your life?

As you prepare for Christmas this season of Advent, my prayer is that you will pause and step back to reflect on the gift of God’s love for you. May this be a blessed season of Advent for you.

To God be the glory! Your partner in ministry, Pastor Rebecca

Child Hooray for Today There are many opportunities to be thankful every day. As parents we should look for those good things in life and point them out to our children. As we do this, we’re teaching them to appreciate even little blessings.

Adult The Indwelling (Book 7 of 12 in the Left Behind series) It’s the midpoint of the seven- year Tribulation. A renowned man is dead, and the world mourns. In heaven, the battle of the ages continues to rage until it spills to earth and hell breaks loose. —Gift of Barb Coveleskie

The Mark (Book 8 of 12 in the Left Behind Series) His Excellency Global Community Potentate Nicolae Carpathia is back, this time as Satan. Resurrected and indwelt by the devil himself, it’s no more Mr. Nice Guy as the beast tightens his grip as ruler of the world. —Gift of Barb Coveleskie

Get Their Name Grow your Church by Building New Relationships— The authors of- fer today’s church-goers an awesome opportunity to learn and practice a new way of invitation and radical hospitality. This step-by-step approach is just what is needed to help congregations practice inviting others into Christian fellowship. —Gift of George and Bobbie Bakker

Fearless We fear being sued, finishing last, going broke, the mole on the back, and the sound of the clock as it ticks us closer to the grave. Wouldn’t it be great to escape it? What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats. According to Jesus, this is possible.

The Case for Christmas Consulting experts on the Bible, archaeology, and messianic prophecy, Lee Strobel, an investigative journalist, asks tough questions about the true identity of the child in the manger. If Jesus really is God in the flesh, then there ought to be credible evidence.

MISSION AND OUTREACH CORNER Angel Tree We are excited to announce that the Angel Tree is up and decorated with tags in the Narthex. We were able to get 89 tags from Farrington Grove Elementary. The tags will have the pajama size on the top and will be either a boy or girl angel. The gifts are to be back to the church no later than December 16th. Please wrap the gift and attach the name tag to the gift.

The Angel Tree is such an amazing way to give back to the community and help out a family in need. It really does mean so much to the kids and families that we are able to bless. So come grab a tag or three and help spread the holiday cheer.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to Operation Christmas Child. We had a goal of sending 150 boxes this year. Not only did we make our goal, but we have a start for next year. The Temple Preschool was also a tremendous help, filling 55 boxes on their own and helping to pack the rest of the boxes after their Temple Preschool Church Sing on November, 11th. We could not have done this without your prayers, hard work, and donations. Thank you for being the Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ in all you do.

This page is geared toward bringing more kids and families into our church. In order to make this happen and be successful, we ALL have to be willing to work together. See some opportunities listed below:

KIDZOWN KidZown is coming along nicely! We have an average of 12 kids each Sunday. (On the day that the preschool families attended, we had 28 kids!!! Whew!) The kids come together after the Children’s Sermon in the service. They then go to the KidZown room where we have a learning time with Scripture and a craft that goes along with it. Each week, the Scripture is the same for the kids as the adults in the service. That way, every family can discuss the lesson together during the following week. Parents – please try to take the time each week to talk to your kids about their lesson and what they have learned.

KIDSHOPE USA Our 2018 Christmas party will be held at the school on Thursday, December 13, from 2:45-4:00 pm. We will be playing games with Mr. Brad, doing crafts, eating some GOOD food from Ms. Chris, and ending the day with the annual mentors vs. kids snowball fight! Miss Jill will be providing one gift for each child and the mentors will provide one gift for their child. If you are interested in helping to defray the cost with a monetary gift, you can contact Jill in the office.

BETHLEHEM MARKETPLACE AND LIVE NATIVITY This year’s Bethlehem Marketplace and Live Nativity will be on December 16th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering for either the Marketplace or the Nativity, or just want more information about either, please call the church office or talk to Jill or Susie.

MANGER JOURNEY What a great start we had with over 60 people participating in the first Sunday of the Manger Journey! The Advent that were made can be seen each week as they add another candle to them. The kids are working on a bell chime piece that they will be playing all through the evening at the Live Nativity on December 16th. It is not too late to join this Advent activity with your family. Join us on December 2 at the Hanging of the Greens, December 9th as we make Advent bulletin covers, and explore the Bethlehem Marketplace on December 16th. What a wonderful way to begin a new church year!

UPCOMING DISCIPLESHIP EVENTS: ADULT BIBLE STUDY We had such a great turnout for the Parables of Jesus study that I wanted to continue the experience! I will be leading another Bible study beginning Wednesday, January 15th and continuing through the end of February. We will be completed before Lent begins. Tentatively, the subject will be “Simon Peter - Flawed but Faithful Disciple”, a study by Adam Hamilton. Watch for the sign-up sheet appearing soon or call Jill at the church.

SCRIPTURE ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP Saturday, January 26, 2019 9:00am-2:30pm Northside Community Church 1075 N Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, 47805 Cost: $15 per person (Lunch included) Presenter: Taylor University Professor Dr. Phil Collins

Research has been conducted with 250,000 people from 1,000 churches looking at 50 different factors that impact spiritual growth. What did they find? “Nothing has a greater impact on spiritual growth than reflection on Scripture. If churches could do only one thing to help people grow in their relationship with Christ, their choice is clear. They would inspire, encourage, and equip their people to read the Bible– to reflect on Scripture for meaning in their lives. The Bible is the most powerful catalyst for spiritual growth. The Bible’s power to advance spiritual growth is unrivaled by anything else.” The key process in training people to fulfill the Great Commission is to grow in Scripture engagement.

This workshop will teach you some new ways to engage the scriptures. You will hear some important information. You will be able to experiment and participate interactively and try out some new methods with others that could jump start your spiritual growth. You will discover some methods to take home and share with your family, your church, and your friends.
