ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT GENERAL ADMINISTRATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES Various office policies were formulated and implemented to ensure orderly office operations. A regular staff meeting and when needed, a general assembly meeting is held to discuss/resolve issues and concerns regarding office and regional operations. ISO Certification The office was finally awarded the ISO Certification for BS EN ISO 9001: 2015, BS EN ISO 14001:2015, and BS EN ISO 18001: 2007 during the Monday Morning Program on March 19, 2018 by a representative of NQA Philippines, Inc., Ms. Karol Buenvenida. All contractual and regular personnel converged at the ground floor lobby for the awarding ceremony. The Stage 2 Audit, which is vital to the maintenance of the ISO certification, took place on December 20-21, 2018. The preparation that added up to the audit paved way because MGB RO-6 was deemed to have passed as assessed by NQA Philippines. Embedded Personnel in the PENRO Strict enforcement of responsible mining has always been a mandate of the MGB, so one of the proposed directions was to support the embedding of MGB personnel in the CENRO/PENRO. MGB RO-6 was classified under Category 2 (PENRO Level) considering that there are no operating large-scale mines in the region. There were over thirty (30) applicants vying for the positions but only six (6) were chosen after a thorough screening process. These six Contract of Service personnel, consisting of one (1) mining engineer and five (5) geologists, were officially deployed to their respective PENROs last March 15, 2018. GAD Activity in celebration of 2018 National Women’s Month In celebration of the 2018 National Women’s Month, MGB RO-6 held a learning event on R.A. 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 on March 20, 2018 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel. Attorney Shiella P. Olid from the Office of the City of Iloilo was invited as the resource person for the said activity, in which she discussed salient features of R.A. 9262. Last November 14, 2018, another learning event was conducted with Ms. Noreen Marian P. Bautista of Connected Women as the resource speaker. The topic was a tad different from the usual topics since it focused more on alternative livelihoods for MGB 6 YEAR-END REPORT 2018 / Page 3 women. The talk revolved on the theme, “Gender and Development: Exploring Possibilities and Potentials.” FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SERVICES As of December 2018, the total obligations incurred amounted to P 56,722,242.38 or 99% fund utilization: P 33,132,254.15 was incurred from Personal Services; P 23,203,428.23 from the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses, and P 386,560.00 from Capital Outlay, hereunder presented: P 33,132,254.15 Personal Services (PS) P 23,203,428.23 Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) P 386,560.00 Capital Outlay (CO) P 56,722,242.38 Grand Total A.03. Report No. 3 – Population, Land Area, and Population Density is among the series of publications that present the results of the POPCEN 2015. This publication provides information on the population size, land area, and population density by region, province, highly urbanized city, and city/municipality based on the data from population census conducted by the PSA in the years 2000, 2010, and 2015; and data on land area by city/municipality as of December 2013 that was provided by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Also presented in this report is the percent change in the population density over the three census years. The population density shows the relationship of the population to the size of land where the population resides.

  • Appendix a Water Pollution in the Philippines: Case Studies
Foreword CLIMATE CHANGE is undoubtedly the biggest challenge the Philippines faces today, and the vulnerability of our water resources to this phenomenon is a reality that can no longer be ignored. But while water scarcity is perhaps one of the most alarming projected effects of climate change on water resources, two recent typhoons in the Philippines— Ketsana and Parma—have driven home the message that over-abundance can be equally devastating. Both typhoons, along with several others in the past few years, have shown how the country is sorely ill-prepared to handle the impacts brought on by a warming world. Indeed, climate change and the ensuing extreme weather events which have brought too little—or too much—water, have caused periods of water crisis that have destroyed thousands of lives and billions of pesos worth of property and agricultural crops. At the same time, water resources in the country are already confronted with many persistent problems: widespread pollution, over-extraction, and the degradation of watersheds. The present situation, set against the backdrop of climate change, is far from promising. While climate change will affect all sectors, it is its effects on freshwater—society’s, and the Earth’s, life support system—which will be most seriously felt. Water insecurity cuts across all other sectors and will negatively affect agriculture, health, and the economy. But the country’s water systems are still far from being climate-proofed, and current climate change adaptation plans lack the necessary emphasis on addressing impacts on water. This report therefore puts forward the case for the improved management of water resources as a key climate change adaptation strategy.
