  • Holcombe Programme 19Th September 2020
Holcombe Hockey Club Saturday 19th September 2020 4pm Holcombe vs Loughborough Students Sunday 20th September 2020 2pm Holcombe vs Old Georgians 2 15 Welcome We extend a warm welcome to our visitors and their travelling supporters this weekend. On Saturday the ladies take on Loughborough Students – with the returning Charlotte Watson – who play at 4pm and will be umpired by Andy Poulain, Helen Sargeant and officiated by MO Marilyn Walker On Sunday our men take on Old Georgians at 2pm, this will be umpired by Andy Poulain (again), Mark Jarvis and officiated by MO Richard Chere. A lot has happened since I last wrote a set of programme notes back in March and the fact we are lining up to play hockey at all at the start of this season is thanks to an incredible collaborative effort up and down country - firstly England Hockey to get the green light to move to Step 4 and then the clubs to buy into the processes and get the season underway. To date there have been 135,000 Participation Agreements signed, this was ‘called out’ at the re-convened England Hockey AGM last Tuesday and needs repeating here. Also the big news items from the AGM is to vote in ‘A Structure Fit for the Future’ this is covered in more detail on Page 6 but is the biggest rationalisation and simplification exercise, the sport has undertaken in this country. This season sees a change in league format in the Premier Leagues with every team playing each other once before Christmas. The leagues will then split in two with the top 6 teams playing each other once more to decide the Champions.

  • Download Medway Sports Strategy 2017-20
MEDWAY SPORTING LEGACY 2017- 2020 PLAY COMPETE SPECTATE Foreword by the Minister for Sport Tracey Crouch Sport has a unique power to change lives for the better. It brings communities together, has a positive impact on mental as well as physical health and teaches people valuable life lessons whether that's teamwork or striving to be the best you can be. Medway Council understands this and I applaud them for their ongoing commitment to sporting provision and programmes that are hugely beneficial to local people. The Council's Medway Sporting Legacy Strategy chimes with the government's own aim to get more people active and give children a great experience of sport. Four years after London 2012 it is important that we continue to invest and support sport at all levels and ensure that the legacy from that incredible summer is maintained. The development of Medway Park, an £11m centre of sporting excellence, is just one example of how the council is backing sport at all levels. It not only supports the grassroots, providing opportunities to all, but also is a base for talent development too. Medway's availability of many different programmes to inspire people to get active shows the importance of having engaging schemes to bring new people to sport and then keep them involved when they take that step by making the experience fun and enjoyable. Medway successes like the offer of free swims, the Mini Youth Games and the Medway Festival of Sport have shown just what can be achieved when councils get their offer right.

The class of 2017 had amongst them a Woodard Young Musician of the year, Ashley Johnston, whose eclectic recitals of original music performed on guitar were well known to those in the College community, but are now recognised internationally, not least by judge Julian Lloyd Webber. On the sports field, the 2017 leavers excelled in an unprecedented way, having made up a large portion of the 1st XI footballers who won the ISFA cup twice in a row. Welcome Those of you who keep abreast of the College We have also said a sad farewell to Chris Calvey, as he concludes a life or who attended our recent OA Day will have magnificent ten years as Head of the Prep School. Chris’s joie de vivre and his strong educational values have taken the Prep School from noted the progress we continue to make on campus strength to strength, including its move into the main school.

But slowly and surely there has been an element of return to play. The SA Hockey Men and the SA Hockey Women were both in various camps which Hockey the Magazine was able to attend, while Cindy Hack joined Eastern Gauteng for a coaching clinic at Woodlands College.
