Welcome to Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen 2021. To the family and close friends who are anxiously waiting to actually see their teen compete in this limited-seating, live event, a heartwarming MAHALO! For those of you who were unable to join us and are reading this letter in our new digital Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen 2021 Program Book, aloha!

A noted Hawaii educator told me as we were faltering on whether MHIOT 2020 was actually going to happen, “This is a time when we need to make sure that the young adults do not miss out on all of the ways they can shine because of the virus. Hoping you all will figure out a way to find our newest young leader.” MHIOT 2020 did not happen, but her words resonated. So tonight is the culmination of the work our MHIOT team did throughout 2020. They confronted the many roadblocks of Covid, yet came up with unique and innovative ways to showcase our competition in order to find that young leader who will represent us and be that “star” for Hawaii’s teens in 2021!

And they will shine because what you will see is a lot of grit and tons of determination that these 2022 candidates have shown throughout. Kalani, Shannia, Arahmae, Rheylie, Cheyenne, Alexis B., Glenzy, Ilima, Alexis K. and Faith – thank you. Mahalo for your commitment to the difficult task of preparing for MHIOT 2021. Paperwork, zoomies, assignments, deadlines and finally, Sign up to be a in-person and Google Meets rehearsals, with the echoes of masks and safe distancing. All under the “we need to always be safe” rubric and constant reminders to avoid exposure to those nasty bugs Candidate for 2022 out there. Wouldn’t that be daunting to you? Not to these young ladies – they all stayed the course [email protected] and you will immediately realize that when you see them on stage.

However, one teen stood out through all of this. Meet the longest serving Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding a Win Scholarships for College Teen – Makaila Natividad, Miss Hawaii’s Outstanding Teen 2019 – 2020. Amazingly, she continued during shutdown and, even more a Compete for the title of amazingly, to this day has mentored our ten teens on their adventure and quest to be her successor. ’s Outstanding Teen But it is her wonderful personality, her beautiful smile, her fortitude and her absolute respect for her family and the people around her that personifies Makaila.
