Professional Bowlers Association Tour title Sunday in the Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic at Mid-County Bowl- ing and Entertainment Center. Ciminelli, ending a three-year title slump, took an ear- ly lead against Daugherty, starting with three strikes and getting help when Daugherty left the 3-6-7-10 split and opened in the fourth frame. But Ciminelli returned the fa- vor, leaving the 4-6-7-9-10 “Greek church” in his ninth frame to give Daugherty a chance to shut him out. When Daugherty failed to strike out, Ciminelli locked up the title with strikes on his first two shots in the 10th frame. “I really don’t know what to say,” the 33-year-old left- hander said. “There’s a few different reasons why this one means so much to me. What really matters is all the people here watching me win. There were a lot of people who helped me out. I can’t thank them enough.” Daugherty, a 44-year-old two-time PBA Tour title win- ner, took the lead in Sunday’s five-game cashers round and Ryan Ciminelli systematically won every match he needed to win in the frame, Ciminelli threw eight consecutive strikes to deny PBA GENE CARTER’S PRO SHOP CLASSIC 12-game match play round to secure the top berth for the Wilkins’ bid for his first PBA Tour title. • Jason Belmonte Named Male Bowler of the Decade for the 2010S
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Monday 6 January 2020 Jason Belmonte named Male Bowler of the Decade for the 2010s The sport’s most prestigious magazine “Bowlers Journal International” has selected Australian tenpin bowling star Jason Belmonte as its Male Bowler of the Decade for the 2010s. In arguably the most dominant decade by any bowler in the 60-plus year history of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), Belmonte shattered numerous records, winning 11 major championships including four USBC Masters titles (three of those in a row). He won 21 of his 22 career titles in the 2010s and joined the PBA “Millionaire’s Club” in a record-breaking 131 tournaments. Stellar performances in 2019 saw the 36-year- old cap the decade with a fifth PBA Player of the Year Award. Along the way, Belmonte notched up four coveted ESPY Awards, sharing the spotlight with numerous high-profile sports stars, and collaborated with the crew from Dude Perfect to produce Bowling Trick Shots that has resulted in one of its most popular YouTube segments ever recorded, with over 94 million hits since its release. (www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CACAmH4r1fw). In 2016 Belmonte launched a unique gaming initiative, billed as the most realistic bowling game ever made - BOWLING by Jason Belmonte, and joined forces late last year with NASCAR star Aric Almirola to throw the world’s fastest strike (www.worldsfasteststrike.com). However, observers regard Belmonte’s most impressive feat as establishing the two- handed delivery as a dominant technique that has been adopted by hundreds of thousands bowlers across the globe.

Bowlers in Australia, and across the globe share the glory and respect of fellow sportsmen and women with Jason Belmonte’s inclusion in THE SPORTSPEDIA 100. The performances and historical significance of thousands of sportspeople from over 150 sports were critically analysed to determine the ultimate list of the best athletes in the world. Using a complex formula with over 30 variables, NBA champion and multiple record-breaker, LeBron James (USA), topped the list of rankings while Belmonte scored the highest placing (at #29) of Australians qualifying for this momentous accolade. Fellow Australian athletes Boyd Exell (Equestrian) and Tia-Clair Toomey (CrossFit) ranked #48 and #49 and Wheelchair Tennis star Dylan Alcott joined the illustrious line-up at #55. “The Class of 2020 of the 100 best sportspeople in the world competed in 39 sports and hail from 34 countries, from every permanently inhabited continent. “Some sports and groups of sports were totally absent due to a total or partial shutdown during the pandemic, and some sportspeople did not compete at all due to travel limits,” the announcement stated. “Nevertheless, the Class of 2020 saw several historical milestones being achieved and extended. “Every single one of them has been a World Champion or equivalent and the majority already place among the all-time best in their disciplines, sports and/or group of sports … we made sure not to miss any sports in the analysis - from Indian Kambala to Argentinian Pato to Irish Handball,” it added.
