SUNDAY 24th JUNE 2012 (OGWEN) A PLUS WALK From Aber we head south to Moel Wnion, Gyrn and Wigau, then east to Drosgl, Bera Bach, Yr Aryg, Uchaf and continue south to and Llewelyn. Its then on to , Dafydd andPen yr Ole Wen, descending to the east end of . Please have boots & rucksacks on the coach. DISTANCE: 24.1km (15 miles) 25 POINTS ASCENT 1525m (5000ft) A WALK Starting from Llanfairfechan (GR681748) we walk up through the village to start our ascent by Garreg Fawr to walk the Carneddau Ridge via Drum, Foel-Fras, Garnedd Uchaf, Foel Grach and Carnedd Llewellyn (1064m). We then descend to the bwlch and ascend , then up . Then descend, with a minor scramble, to Glan Dena and the coach at Llyn Ogwen. DISTANCE: 21.7km (13½ miles) 22½ POINTS ASCENT 1345m (4400ft) B PLUS WALK From the Ogwen Valley at Glan Dena we climb steeply up to Llyn Lloer. Just before the lake we turn west and scramble up the rocky corridor onto the broad ridge of Lloer. This takes us to the summit of Pen yr Ole Wen where we head NNE and then NE to Carnedd Dafydd. From Dafydd we head in an easterly direction taking in Cefn Ysgolion and Drum and then a short but fairly strenuous climb takes us to the summit of Llewelyn. We head east to take in Penywaun Wen followed by a short steep scramble down Craig yr Ysfa to the rim of Bwlch Eryl Farchog. Our final climb takes us to the top of Pen yr Helgi Du where we follow the grassy slopes of Y Braich down to the A5. Tracks parallel to the road take us back to the coach. DISTANCE: 16.1km (10 miles) 17 POINTS ASCENT 1035m (3400ft) B MINUS WALK Starting from Ogwen car park we head north on the old Roman road (mostly metalled) past the Youth Hostel; through the lovely glaciated Nant Ffrancon valley which is surrounded by the majestic and Carneddau mountains. Crossing the A5 at Ty Gwyn we head up a grassy slope and follow a track contouring the hill. Another short climb and we follow a track above a small wood leading to Cefn yr Orsedd. Before we drop down to Bwlch yr Hela we climb a small hill (for views) and follow a path through the delightful Braichmelyn Wood. Crossing the A5 again we cross a bridge over the River Ogwen and head south following an undulating quiet lane below the Penrhyn Slate Works back to Ogwen car park. It may be muddy in sections. Café and toilets in car park DISTANCE: 16km (10 miles) 13½ POINTS ASCENT 560m (1840ft) C WALK Starting in Bethesda at Jct with the B4409 we take a path up the side of the Cefn yr Orsedd as far Stone Circle & Sheepfolds then descend to Ty Gwyn, crossing the A5 we join the old road which takes us up to . After walking around the attractive lake and its impressive surrounding we turn back to Llyn Ogwen. DISTANCE: 12.9km (8miles) 10 POINTS ASCENT 305m (1000ft) Please keep behind your leader at all times
