Ffve fndependent sfghfngs of the Brown Mongoose The famffy Herpesfdae comprfses 34 specfes fn the were made from the evergreen forest near Pandfpath worfd of whfch seven specfes are known from Indfa and camp shed and Athfrumafa base camp, fn Peppara four from the Western Ghats (Mudappa 2013; Nameer Wffdfffe Sanctuary, Thfruvananthapuram Dfstrfct, Kerafa 2015). The Brown Mongoose Herpestes fuscus fs a (Ffg. 1, Tabfe 1, Images 1 & 2). One pafr was observed specfes wfth restrfcted dfstrfbufon and fs seen fn the frequenfng the premfses of the camp shed durfng the southern Western Ghats and Srf Lanka. Four subspecfes day and nfght feedfng from the ffter. of the Brown Mongoose have been recognfsed by Corbet A Brown Mongoose was sfghted and afso camera & Hfff (1992). They are H.f. fuscus, H.f. phffffpsf, H.f. trapped (Bushneff Trophy Cam fnfrared camera trap) sfccatus and H.f. rubfdor , of whfch the one seen fn the fnsfde the reed patches of Pandfmota, fn Shendurney
