Restorations on the back and book jacket; int. water stains in the frst volume; missing part of the plate with a general view of Moscow. Illustrated with 110 plates according to drawings by Damame-Démartrait and Robert Ker-Por- ter, representing the costumes, objects, customs and views of Russia. Breton de La Martinière published this handsome work on Russia following his book on China published by the same Parisian bookshop, Antoine Nepveu, at the heart of his collections of small works, specially dedicated to the study of mores and customs in different countries. Restauration aux dos et coiffes ; mouillure int. au premier volume ; manque un volet à la planche de la vue générale de Moscou. Belle ouvrage illustré de 110 planches d’après les dessins de Damame-Démartrait et Ro- bert Ker-Porter, représentant les costumes, objets, coutumes et vues de la Russie. Breton de La Martinière ft paraitre ce bel ouvrage sur la Russie à la suite de sa Chine publiée par le même libraire parisien, Antoine Nepveu. Cette publication fait partie d’une suite de petits ouvrages spécialement dédié à l’étude des mœurs et coutume de différents pays. Encouragé par le succès de cette collection, Breton de La Martinière publia à la suite, de 1813 à 1818, plusieurs voyages consacrés à l’Egypte et à la Syrie, à l’Espagne et au Portugal, à l’Illyrie et à la Dalmatie, et enfn au Japon. Breton indique dans sa préface ; La plupart des ouvrages que j’ai composé jusqu’ici, ont eu pour objet de dépouiller la géographie et la lecture des relations de voyages, de tout ce qu’elles pourraient offrir de fatiguant aux yeux des personnes du monde (…). 700 – 800 ¤

Unusual work, illustrated by a vast iconography with many engravings in the text, and in spreads including 2 lithography illustrations (the Congress of Paris and capturing the tower of Malakoff), several paintings and 4 maps.

By Chopin, former secretary and book-keeper for Prince Kourakin, Russian Ambassador to the Court of France. The work is part of the collection, published by Firmin-Didot, L’Univers pittoresque, histoire et description de tous les peuples (…). Includes 98 engraved plates and 4 maps. Successive binding by César Famin, Crimée, Circassie et Géorgie (with 2 maps and 20 pl.) ; and by Boré, orientaliste, Arménie (2 maps and 32 pl.).

One vol. in-4, in English, eggplant full morocco, spine ribbed, framing on the lay fats of the garlands and large frieze with gilded palmette leaves, central plaque, gilded lace on the cuttings, golden edges (period binding). Clamp restoration, fragile hinges. A rare work to the glory of the Franco-British armies during the War and Orient (1854- 1855). Ornamented with a cover (representing the heroes of Alma, Balaklava and In- kermann) and lithograph cover title, engraved portrait of Queen Victoria, 29 engraved plates, 12 double page lithographs (including views of Odessa, Sebastopol, Balaklava, Malakoff…) and 2 battle maps (the battle of Alma and the siege of Sebastopol with a fortifcations map). A nice copy with a romantic binding.

Restauration aux mors, charnières fragiles. Ouvrage rare à la gloire des armées franco britanniques lors de la Guerre d’Orient (1854-1855). Histoire détaillée et abondamment illustrée de la Guerre de Crimée, publiée vers 1860. Orné d’un frontispice (représentant les héros de l’Alma, Balaklava et Inkermann) et titre- frontispice lithographié, portrait gravé de la Reine Victoria, 29 planches gravées, 12 lithographies double page (dont les vues d’Odessa, Sébastopol, Balaklava, Malakoff…) et 2 plans de batailles (bataille de l’Alma et siège de Sébastopol avec plan des fortifcations). One vol. in-4, 73 plates, full red Morocco with long grain, smooth back ornamented with foral friezes, golden and à la grotesque, framing on the lay fats of golden and small palmettes leaves, guilloche corners, thin golden garland on the inside edge (period binding). Fragile lower clamp; inside water stains at the bottom of the page. First printing of this handsome collection representing all the nationalities of the Russian empire, including the Finns, Laplanders, Estho- nians, Tcheremhisians, Votiakians, Samoyeians, Kalmouks, Kirghizes, Tatars, etc. It comprises 73 colour plates with stipple engraving by J. Dadley, each showing a masculine or feminine, character, standing up or sometimes on horseback, in their native costume and generally magnifcent. A French-English bilingual text conveys comments and anecdotes on the clothing and the illustrated characters. A handsome specimen with a morocco-leather binding. Colas, 702 [DADLEY (J.)]. Discrete restorations of the clamps. In two parts, ancient Russia and modern Russia.A nice specimen with the Russian eagle, binding by the successor of Simier.

GEREBTZOFF (Nicolas de). Essai sur l’Histoire de la civilisation en Russie. Paris, Amyot, 1858. 2 vol. in-4, demi-chagrin vert, dos à nerfs orné, encadrement des plats de flets dorés, feurons en écoinçons, grandes armes à l’aigle russe aux centres, tranches dorées (reliure « Petit, successeur de Simier »). Discrète restauration des mors au niveau des coiffes. En deux parties, la Russie ancienne et la Russie moderne. Bel exemplaire à l’aigle impériale, relié par le successeur de Simier. 300 – 400 ¤

Un vol. grand in-4, en anglais, demi-basane fauve à coins, dos lisse orné de flets et feurons dorés (reliure moderne). Ex-dono manuscrit sur le titre de William Tolson. Mouillure claire à des planches, et qqs restaurations. Bel ouvrage dont la première édition fut publiée en 1809, abondamment illustré en couleurs d’après les dessins de l’auteur. Orné d’une planche dépliante couleurs illustrant une scène pittoresque (Inside the Russian post-house), 7 vues lithographiées (dont plusieurs de Saint-Pétersbourg) et 19 planches couleurs de costumes. Artiste britannique de renom, Robert Ker Porter (1775-1842), avait été nommé peintre d’Histoire par le Tsar Alexandre en 1804 et par- ticipa à de vastes travaux de décoration pour le palais de l’Amirauté à Saint-Pétersbourg. Il ft par la suite une tournée en Scandinavie où il fut reçu et décoré par le Roi Gustave IV de Suède, puis en Espagne et en Orient (Perse, Caucase, Turquie…). Il termina sa vie comme consul au Venezuela. Son récit comprend ici des observations et des impressions sur Saint-Pétersbourg, Moscou, Upsala, Stockholm, donnant de nombreux renseignements sur les collections d’art, les musées russes et scandinaves, l’armée russe, le système juridique et pénitentiaire, la religion, l’éducation, les Cosaques, le commerce et les mines, etc. Lipperheide, 314, Colas 2407. 800 – 1,000 ¤

After a praise of Levesque, a notice on the edition of 1800 and the reproduction of the preface from the edition of 1781, the author relates the history of Russia in the years 860 UNTIL Paul I (volumes I à V), makes a physical description of Russia, its commerce, its discoveries and annexations (v. VI) and fnishes on the story of populations submitted to the Russians (v. VII and VIII). Parmi les grandes planches dépliantes, on appréciera particulièrement les vues de Moscou, Persépolis, Ispahan. « Voyageur et peintre originaire de La Haye, Corneille Le Bruyn (1652-1726) passa près de 27 ans à courir le monde. Elève de Theo- door van der Schuer, il se rendit d’abord en Italie en 1674 et resta deux ans à Rome. Puis il passa onze mois à Livourne, dans l’attente d’un navire hollandais pour Smyrne : on a émis l’hypothèse qu’il agissait peut-être comme espion, d’où ce séjour prolongé dans un port sans grand intérêt pour un peintre. Cette mission secrète lui aurait peut-être fourni les moyens de fnancer son premier voyage. En 1678, il s’embarqua pour un voyage de sept ans en Orient visitant notamment plusieurs îles de la mer Egée, Constantinople, l’Egypte et la Palestine. Il s’arrêta à Venise sur le chemin du retour et s’y établit pour huit ans, au service du peintre bavarois Johann Karl Loth dit Carlotto. De retour en Hollande en 1693, après 15 ans d’absence et désormais reconnu comme peintre, Le Bruyn fut encouragé par les bourgmestres de Denver et d’Amsterdam à publier le récit de ses voyages. Le livre, paru en 1698, fut un succès. Repris par le désir de découvrir de nouveaux horizons, Le Bruyn repartit en 1701 pour un voyage qui devait durer huit ans et le mener en Russie, en Perse et dans les Indes néer- landaises. Le récit de ce second voyage, paru en 1708, n’obtint pas le même succès et l’on reprocha même à son auteur des inexactitudes. L’expédition avait pour tâche principale de cartographier la région depuis l’embouchure de la Kolyma, dans le Nord-Est de la Sibérie, le long du rivage maritime de la Sibérie orientale jusqu’au détroit de Béring, de cartographier la péninsule de Tchoukotka à l’inté- rieur du détroit de Béring jusqu’au cap Shelagsky ; il devait aussi établir des cartes précises de la chaîne des îles Aléou- tiennes et d’autres situées entre le Kamchatka et la côte améri- caine de l’Alaska. Курпринц Карл-Христиан-Иосиф-Игнац-Франц-Ксавьер Саксонский (1733-1796) – пятый сын курфюрста Фридриха Августа II Саксонского. Принял участие в Семилетней войне в составе австрийской армии. В 1758 прибыл в Петербург ко двору императрицы Елизаветы. 2 июля отправился в расположение российской армии, получив ордена Св. Андрея Первозванного, украшенный бриллиантами, и орден Св. Александра Невского. В рядах русской армии сражался при Цорндорфе. После свержения Э.И. Бирона в 1759 г. при поддержке России получил титул герцога Курляндского и Семигальского. В 1763 Екатериной II на курляндский престол был возвращен Бирон, а Карл Саксонский бежал в Дрезден. Карл Фридрих Хольцман - дрезденский художник-портретист.

Миниатюра вмонтирована в медальон гильошированной эмали, по которой алмазами выложено «Souvenir de l’annee 1819». Медальон являлся частью жалованной табакерки, подаренной императрицей Марией Федоровной одному из придворных, сопровождавших великого князя Михаила Павловича в заграничном путешествии 1819 года. В Государственном Эрмитаже хранится аналогичная табакерка, принадлежавшая генералу И.Ф. Паскевичу (приписывается ювелиру Дювалю). С 1790 обучался в лондонской Королевской Академии живописи. В 1804 по вызову Императора Александра I приехал в Россию, где получил звание придворного исторического живописца, пользовался постоянным благоволением государя. В 1805 путешествовал по Финляндии и Швеции, описав свои странствования в книге «Travelling Sketches in Russia and Sweden during the years 1805—1808», затем ездил в Португалию и Испанию. В 1811 опять приехал в Россию, В 1812 женился на княжне Марии Федоровне Щербатовой и вошел в светские и дипломатические круги петербургского общества. Будучи свидетелем событий Отечественной войны, издал в 1818 «A Narrative of the Campaign in Russia during the year 1812 г.». В 1817 предпринял большое путешествие по Кавказу и Персии, которое описал в книге «Travels in Greorgia, Persia, Armenia, Ancient Babylonia, 1817—1820 г.». после смерти жены в 1826 был назначен Британским консулом в Венесуэлу, где провел 15 лет, затем вернулся в Россию и умер в Петербурге. Les Enfans de Paris - прозвище 9-го полка линейной пехоты Великой армии Наполеона. В Кампании 1812 полк принимал участие в сражениях под Витебском, Бородино, Вязьмой, Малоярославцем. Все 4 батальона, принимавшие участие в Русской кампании, были разбиты или уничтожены. В Бородинском сражении полк потерял около половины личного состава. Перед сражением в строю находилось 91 офицер и 1949 нижний чин. После сражения уже в Москве налицо было 57 офицеров и 1024 солдата, командир полка полковник Витре тоже получил ранение на Бородинском поле. По итогам битвы 8 офицеров и 4 солдата были награждены орденом Почётного Легиона. Полковник В. Витре прошёл с полком всю кампанию 1812 года и только в окрестностях Вильно с несколькими офицерами попал в плен. 100 – 150 ¤

Алексей Евдокимович Лазарев (1775 (?)-1825) году — участник Наполеоновских войн. В день ратификации Тильзитского договора 27-го июня (9 июля) 1807 во время парада русских и французских войск Наполеон изъявил желание наградить орденом Почетного легиона «самого храброго русского солдата». При этом выбор пал на правофлангового гренадера Лейб-гвардии Преображенского полка Лазарева. Наполеон снял с себя орден Почетного Легиона и надел его на Лазарева, приказав производить ему ежегодно по 1,200 франков. Наполеон сказал гренадеру: «Ты будешь помнить этот день, когда мы, твой государь и я, сделались друзьями». В 1809 по приказу великого князя Константина Павловича, унтер-офицера Лазарева лишили ордена Почетного легиона за «учиненные им дерзкие поступки против фельдфебеля Тиравина и разжаловали без суда в рядовые», переведя в Азовский пехотный полк. Позже Лазарев был прощен, получил чин прапорщика Гвардейской инвалидной роты Лейб-гвардии Гарнизонного батальона. В 1819 у Лазарева произошел конфликт с хозяйкой квартиры, у которой снимал комнату его знакомый. Также досталось и случайному свидетелю конфликта. В результате причиненных побоев «чиновнику и мещанке» прапорщик Лазарев был предан военному суду. Однако, судебное дело Лазарева было отправлено на пересмотр, ввиду изменившихся показаний участников и свидетелей конфликта. Решение по делу Лазарева затянулось. В 1825 прапорщик Лазарев, так и не дождавшись решения по своей участи, застрелился. 100 – 150 ¤

Мраморный оригинал скульптуры «Нестор Летописец» был исполнен Антокольским в 1890 году. По его творческому замыслу все основные произведения мастера должны были тиражироваться в уменьшенных размерах в фарфоре и керамике. Однако, это так и не было осуществлено. В 1777 в составе Сумского гусарского полка участвовал в усмирении крымских татар; а в 1778 в осаде и взятии крепости Очакова, где за отличие был награждён орденом Св. Владимира 4-й ст.. В 1789 находился при взятии крепостей Аккермана и Бендер. В 1790 выказал особую отвагу при взятии Измаила, был тяжело ранен пулями и кинжалом в ноги и руку и пикой в грудь. В 1792 награжден орденом Св. Георгия 4-й ст. и пожалованы 200 душ крестьян, причём он был произведён в подполковники и назначен комендантом в город Рогачёв. В 1798- 1799 командовал Чугуевским казачьим полком. В 1806-1807 служил в Земском войске. Письмо генерала Е.Ф. Канкрина к Ю. фон Грунеру. 10/22 апреля 1814. Егор Францевич Канкрин (1774-1845) - русский государственный деятель и писатель. Родился в Ганау (Гессен); занимался в университетах Гессена и Марбурга. Приехал в 1797 в Россию, с 1803 - инспектор немецких колоний Петербургской губернии. По рекомендации Пфуля и Вольцогена в 1811 был назначен помощником генерал-провиантмейстера, в 1812 г. - генерал- интендантом I армии; в 1813 г. - генерал-интендантом действующей армии. На Канкрине лежала организация продовольствования войск и позднее - ликвидация расчетов с союзными государствами и Францией. С 1823 по 1844 - министр финансов; в 1829 ему было пожаловано графское достоинство; в 1838 читал лекции по финансовой науке Александру II , тогда наследнику. Юстус фон Грунер (Justus Gruner) (1777-1820) — прусский государственный деятель, с 1811 - начальник государственной полиции. В 1812 оставил службу и занялся организацией германского антинаполеоновского народного восстания, за что был заключен в крепость, где содержался до осени 1813. В 1814 занимал ряд крупных административных постов в генерал- губернаторстве Средний Рейн. В 1816 исполнял некоторое время должность начальника германской полиции в Париже и заведовал возвращением отнятых у Германии сокровищ. Пушкина. Правнук поэта А.С. Пушкина. выпускник Александровского лицея (1906). Член IV Государственной думы от Минской губернии. Входил во фракцию русских националистов и умеренно-правых, после её раскола в августе 1915 — в группу националистов-прогрессистов и Прогрессивный блок. В Первую мировую войну занимался размещением беженцев в Бобруйском уезде. Служил в воинском присутствии по набору новобранцев, исполнял задания Всероссийского земского союза.
