    Canada - Paralympics Facts & Figures . Canada is ranked ninth in the all-time Paralympic Winter Games medal table with 119 total medals, made up of 36 gold, 41 silver and 42 bronze . Of the 119 medals Canada has won, 91 of them - 21 gold, 35 silver and 35 bronze – have come in alpine skiing events . Since wheelchair curling was introduced into the Winter Paralympics in 2006, Canada is the only nation to have won gold and Sonja Gaudet was involved in both teams . Canada has also won medals in cross-country skiing (22), ice sledge hockey (3), and biathlon (1) . The nation has won 18 gold medals in women's events and 16 in men's events, with two more gold medals in mixed wheelchair curling . Four years ago in Vancouver, Canada enjoyed its best ever Winter Paralympics winning 19 medals, including 10 golds . Alpine skier Lauren Woolstencroft won five of Canada’s 10 golds in 2010. She became the first athlete to win five gold medals in alpine skiing in a single edition of the Paralympic Winter Games . Having won 10 Paralympic Winter Games medals already (seven gold, two silver and one bronze), Brian McKeever could become Canada’s most decorated Winter Paralympian in Sochi. I was thrilled to see so many of Team Canada’s Paralympians were B.C.-based. The information contained within will provide you with an insider’s view of the athletes who have a connection with British Columbia (BC) and who are competing at the Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. In 2010, Canada won a total of 19 medals, with athletes who have a BC connection contributing 74% of Canada’s total medal haul. In 2014 we expect the Province of BC will once again be a key contributor to Canada’s medal count. 12 athletes with a BC connection have been named to the team for a total representation of 22% of the Canadian team.     Ina Forrest Wheelchair curling This letter is to introduce myself as a candidate for the CPC Athletes Council. My interest in contributing to the betterment of the athlete experience is borne out of my 17 years on the Canadian National Wheelchair Curling Team. Throughout my years on the National Team, I have participated in 3 Winter Paralympic Games and 11 World Championships. I am training now with the goal being Beijing 2022. Paralympics are always the goal and my experiences at them have been amazing. I would like to help ensure that every athlete’s experience is optimized by working with the CPC and contributing to the athlete’s perspective on the Games experience. Playing on a curling team develops skills in discussion, identifying issues, teamwork, goal planning, collaborating and compromise. These are skills that would assist me in the role of a Council member. For the past 4 years, I have been our National Team rep and have attended the AthletesCan Forum, learning about the value of the athlete collective voice and councils’ role in contributing the athlete perspective to their respective sport bodies. Despite being in different sports, many experiences and issues are common across sport, and through the Council, all athletes have an avenue to provide their input. Together we are the athletes of the Paralympic Movement. I would welcome the opportunity to represent you on the CPC Athletes Council.
