1 Revue de presse Semaine 43/2018 The Economic Times of India 22/10/2018 IndiGo has asked the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to remove restrictions on routes where its Pratt & Whitney engine-powered Airbus A320 Neo aircraft can fly and enable it to operate this plane on longer sectors. DGCA has so far not allowed A320 Neos with PW engines to be flown on routes where they are more than an hour away from a nearest airport at any point during the journey, due to the snags in Pratt engines. The US and European aviation regulators have given their nod in the last two years. As a result, the PW-powered A320 Neos with Indian carriers — IndiGo and GoAir — do not have “extended diversion time operations” (EDTO) clearance. “This clearance is required for aircraft with two or more engines to operate routes where the nearest suitable airport to make an emergency landing or divert to is more than an 60 minutes away at any point during the journey. The PW powered Neos in India have to fly on routes where an alternate landing airport is within 60 minutes away,” said a regulatory official. According to PW, its A320 Neo engine “has been granted 180 minute ETOPS eligibility by the European Aviation Safety Agency.” Now, IndiGo has sought EDTO clearance for the Neos as it prepares to make make use of the extended range of these planes to fly them to farther places. IndiGo did not comment on this issue. It also did not say what all routes it would operate the Neos on once and if EDTO clearance is given to them.

  • Minority Media and Community Agenda Setting a Study on Muslim Press in Kerala
Minority Media and Community Agenda Setting A Study On Muslim Press In Kerala Muhammadali Nelliyullathil, Ph.D. Dean, Faculty of Journalism and Head, Dept. of Mass Communication University of Calicut, Kerala India Abstract Unlike their counterparts elsewhere in the country, Muslim newspapers in Kerala are highly professional in staffing, payment, and news management and production technology and they enjoy 35 percent of the newspaper readership in Kerala. They are published in Malayalam when Indian Muslim Press outside Kerala concentrates on Urdu journalism. And, most of these newspapers have a promising newsroom diversity employing Muslim and non-Muslim women, Dalits and professionals from minority and majority religions. However, how effective are these newspapers in forming public opinion among community members and setting agendas for community issues in public sphere? The study, which is centered on this fundamental question and based on the conceptual framework of agenda setting theory and functional perspective of minority media, examines the role of Muslim newspapers in Kerala in forming a politically vibrant, progress oriented, Muslim community in Kerala, bringing a collective Muslim public opinion into being, Influencing non-Muslim media programming on Muslim issues and influencing the policy agenda of the Government on Muslim issues. The results provide empirical evidences to support the fact that news selection and presentation preferences and strategies of Muslim newspapers in Kerala are in line with Muslim communities’ news consumption pattern and related dynamics. Similarly, Muslim public’s perception of community issues are formed in accordance with the news framing and priming by Muslim newspapers in Kerala. The findings trigger more justifications for micro level analysis of the functioning of the Muslim press in Kerala to explore the community variable in agenda setting schema and the significance of minority press in democratic political context.

  • Day Tour to Guruvayur Temple and Elephant Camp
DAY TOUR TO GURUVAYUR TEMPLE AND ELEPHANT CAMP Around 07:30 AM, pick up from respective hotels in Cochin and proceed to Guruvayur (Around 2 ½ hrs drive). Upon arrival visit Punnathur Elephant Court. Punnathurkotta was once the palace of a local ruler, but the palace grounds are now used to house the elephants belonging to the Guruvayoor temple, and has been renamed Anakkotta (meaning "Elephant Fort"). There were 86 elephants housed there, but currently there are about 59 elephants. The elephants are ritual offerings made by the devotees of Lord Guruvayurappa. This facility is also used to train the elephants to serve Lord Krishna as well as to participate in many festivals that occur throughout the year. The oldest elephant is around 82 years of age and is called 'Ramachandran'. Later visit the famous Guruvayur Temple. Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Krishna (an avatar of the god Vishnu), located in the town of Guruvayur in Kerala, India. It is one of the most important places of worship for Hindus of Kerala and is often referred to as "Bhuloka Vaikunta" which translates to the "Holy Abode of Vishnu on Earth". Have lunch from Guruvayur and proceed back to conference venue. En route visit Kodungaloor. Once a maritime port of international repute because of its strategic location at the confluence of the Periyar River and the Arabian Sea, Kondugalloor was considered the gateway to ancient India or the Rome of the East, because of its status as a centre for trade. It was also the entry point of three major religions to India - Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

The Autonomous Women’s Movement in Kerala: Historiography By Maya Subrahmanian1 Abstract This paper traces the historical evolution of the women’s movement in the southernmost Indian state of Kerala and explores the related social contexts. It also compares the women’s movement in Kerala with its North Indian and international counterparts. An attempt is made to understand how feminist activities on the local level differ from the larger scenario with regard to their nature, causes, and success. Mainstream history writing has long neglected women’s history, just as women have been denied authority in the process of knowledge production. The Kerala Model and the politically triggered society of the state, with its strong Marxist party, alienated women and overlooked women’s work, according to feminist critique.

  • Magazine Journalism
What is Magazine? The Word Magazine is coined by the Edward Cave. It is derived from Arabic word ‘makhazin’ which means storehouse- all bundled together in one package. A magazine can be explained as a periodical that contains a variety of articles as well as illustrations, which are of entertaining, promotional and instructive nature. It generally contains essays, stories, poems, articles, fiction, recipes, images etc. and offers a more comprehensive, in-depth coverage and analysis of subject than newspapers. Most of magazines generally cover featured articles on various topics. Magazines are typically published weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly. They are often printed in colour on coated paper and are bound with a soft cover. In a simple, we can say that ‘the better the visual narrative of the magazine, the more it will appeal to its specific audience’. The publisher’s purpose for a magazine is to give its advertisers a chance to share with its readers about their products. Magazine Journalism Magazine Journalism uses the similar tools as traditional journalism tools used for gathering information, background research and writing to produce articles for consumer and trade magazines. The cover story is the beacon in any magazine. The cover page quite often carries stunning headlines to facilitate a compulsive buying of the magazine. Vanitha : An Indian Magazine Vanitha is an Indian magazine published fortnightly by the Malayala Manorama group. Vanitha in Malayalam means woman. It was launched in 1975 as a monthly and later become fortnightly in 1987. Its Hindi edition was launched in 1997. A survey was distributed to all journalists working for the three newspapers (38 of 205 surveys were returned for an 18.5% response rate). Although factor analysis results indicated that having a role in the development process was considered important by respondents, there was relatively little development news in the three newspapers. Further, the development news stories tended to emphasize politics and politicians, used sources associated with the government and its agencies, and avoided sources who took critical views of the development process in India.
