    LYS – Nordic Handicapping System - 2003 Information about the LYS-system The purpose of the LYS system is to give yachts of different classes the option to race against each other. The LYS number indicates what the “best” yacht of each respective kind is able to perform to. It is based on race statistics, which is a comparison between different types of yachts and experience. The table is split in four groups, keelboats, sport boats, dinghies and multihull yachts. The corrected times are normally calculated by simply multiplying the elapsed times by their respective LYS-figures. The LYS-values are applied similarly in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.
